Hey people.

Just wondering, anyone tried out the French Foreign Legion here and can say the pass rates or what's it like etc and the physical standards needed?

I'm currently in the application for The Rifles, but if it all goes tits up I'm taking a plane to France to check the legion out.

Dont you have to be a French Citizen to get into that?

Naw,
You have to be foreign to join them and you can't be French unless you destroy your French citizenship papers or something like that, not 100% sure. My grandad joined them quite a while ago for 5 years but truth is the training's changed in the legion etc so he cant tell me and he can hardly talk also.
Just wondering what the baic stuff would be like, just basic fitness requirements etc.

I'm hoping nothing goes wrong for the Rifles but as everyone probably knows the medical test can be a bummer sometimes, can get deferred for quite a lot of stuff. The legion is just my last resort, plus they don't have your medical records :D

So if the rifles all goes tits up you will go to the legion? Well I know for a fact that the legions basic training is a lot harder than the CIC, so how will you cope if you can't be doin with CIC.

baffles me! :o

I'm mostly talking about medical terms here mate. Plus a man can try can't he??
For starters I'm hoping it all goes well for the Rifles this was just a little thought in the back of my head which maybe I thought I could get help knowing a bit more.

From what Ive read about the legion (Alot as I was considering joining at one point) you will recieve extensive medical tests before you begin training. I think the same pretty much applies as over here, if you are deemed unsuitable for service you will be sent away sharpish.

Does anyone know anything about the selection etc...?
I heard that some recruits get beaten to death, is there any truth to this?
And lastly, how many weeks training do they do before they are "in"?

Thanks

Roger,
No-one gets beaten to death. That is codswallop.
Go to my personal friend (Joe Van Rampt) VOLTIGEUR
website. He is nearly my age, lives in Canada and dined
with me in Paris on St.George's day last. His site is very
informative.
You can also read the Cerven's Foreign Legion forum site.
But take it with a pinch of salt and don't ever part with any
money to the Moderator Martin Scott !

Thanks for the info Chas. I thought
it would be odd if they beat a recruit to death,
But I saw a clip of a legion NCO smack a soldier
accross the head for some reason, though that was a bit harsh
but thats how it goes sometimes.

Loads of information here, although I have no idea how current this is.

Whilst it may seem like a good idea and a way to get away from all your worries don't forget that you will fighting for France at the end of the day.

I wonder at what stage during training you get taught the correct technique for waving the white flag?[/url]
