One of our members has lost a loved one to cancer recently and has asked for ideas re raising a few bob for cancer research.

I have an idea and have asked his permission via the Retreat to get on with it. However, bearing in mind that the 'event' I want to exploit takes place next Saturday, I am going unilateral (as always) and kicking it off.

This is all down to trust and NO ONE WILL WIN ANY MONEY!


It's not a world-changing idea but it can be done by all and sundry from the comfort of ther own sofas ..... nothing too challenging.

I will run a sweep for the National. Anyone who wants to have a horse lets me know via this thread and is trusted to donate at least two quid (bearing in mind a lot of members are students / unemployed etc) to a cancer charity as their stake.

The winning punter will not make a bean .... but we will all have contributed to a good cause.

Everyone likes to have an interest in the National and we might have a bit of fun at each others' expense whilst raising ( admittedly not a lot of) dosh.

Plus, we are not restricted to one person, one horse, if we have more punters than gee-gees. It's all money in the kitty.

I may be wrong, but I thought someone here was running five Race for Lifes this year and looking for sponsorship?

I make a monthly donation to Cancer Research, btw, since my sister had a bf who died from a brain tumour a few years back (age 30! )

A lot of fund raising goes on on the site for various causes .... and a fantastic job is done by a lot of people.

However, unless physically taking part in the event yourself, some of us are relegated to the position of 'sticking one's hand in one's pocket.'

This is a way for those of us who, for whatever reason ..... infirmity. age, location, work commitments (and that's just me ) ... aren't able to run up and down mountains, bungee jump off the Blackpool tower etc, can raise a bit of cash ourselves and have a bit of fun doing so.

As I said, we probably won't raise an Earth-shattering amount of money, but, as the advert says, 'Every litle helps.'

Yep,More than one member is running.
This is more specific as it involves one of our own who has lost a loved one to this awful thing we call cancer.
Dig deep,It's worth it.

Can I suggest that 'bets' in the form of donations are made via the following link as the family member concerned suffered from lung cancer. There are various payment methods available ..... you don't have to do it on-line.
