Teamwork

Post by misterpurple »

I'm thinking of joining the RM, but it's only really in the last year that I've got into sport and training, so I'm not the usual played-ever-sport-for-school type.

Is it possible to be turned down for the PRMC if my physical fitness is top, but I can't prove my ability to work in a team as well as the next lad.?

Thanks!

my point was that i am a team player in every environment, just that it'll be difficult for me to prove this seeing as i only played on the rugby team in year 11 at school. i played a few games for the local club outside of school as well, but is this enough to get me to PRMC?

Not sure how far you are into your application but you will prove your teamwork abilities at the PRMC (if you havent had your interview yet then teamwork will come up in that as well). Thats what its there for. Your attitude is what is the important factor at anyone time through your application process. All the ex-RM guys will tell you POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE and that includes helping others. Every question I've asked either here or elsewhere, this has been the main thing. The phys is just a question of graft and anyone can achieve it. If you set out to be helpful and have a good spirit, it will show. If you are mean spirited and selfish, the truth will out.

you dont need to have paperwork or experience to prove you can work in a team, i've only played a wee bit of 5 aside football and i got on my PRMC no problem, your individual talents are what get you on a PRMC, after that its a case of proving you can work with other people, the team work that makes the Royal Marines such an effective unit is taught in training, obviously, if your a total knob that cant stand to be around other people you wont get far

On my PRMC a few years ago I was given credit by one of the corporals for both my teamwork and leadership, even though I failed. But before that i'd never really worked extensively as part of a team (except in a civvie job, which I don't think you can equate with a military environment) and considered myself to be quite reserved. Just a matter of shouting words of encouragement and giving people a hand when you can sense they are struggling. These days I always get told to shut up by the captain of my football team because I shout more orders than him. I doubt you would fail for lack of teamwork, unless you went out of your way to prove you did not like working in a team - ie: answering back when orders are given or working as if no one else is around you.

To answer your question, the chances of you getting turned down for that would be extremley small. Im the same, I really only got fit to get in and I had no probs whatsover.

thats probably the PTis beasting someone for talking when they weren't supposed to. From what I remember, you can talk as much as you want during the exercises on GT2, but can't even open you're mouth on GT1 except when your counting your oppos press/sit ups.

Very Owd Royal Marine saying: "HELP YOUR OPPO".

It comes from the time when Royal Marines manned X and Y Turrets on the big ships. You always had an opposite number in the turret. It now means what it says, you help your buddy/mate. Ok?

As long as you're not a massive nobber you won't fail for lack of team work.

As far as i am concerned (and this does go alot deeper) - as long as you're doing something significant that contributes to the team and its efforts - that is team work
