Well may as well give you my two cents on the 3 days at Lympstone

And I’m afraid to say another failure, due to an injury picked at the beginning up on gym test 2

The warm up was conducted with sprints up and down the hall and as half of it was cut off it was quite cramped.
Anyway set off at full pace and was near the front, when I turned round and got wiped out big time by RED 4, and stood on by some other muppet and received a dead leg and quite a big cut on me shin, why people think they seem to be able to run things is beyond me and the fact he just ran passed me without a care really pissed me off!!. One thing I did learn down there is don't support and encourage people, as I got bollocked for it a few times which seemed a bit bizarre, never the less the fact that I seemed to do better than quite a few lads who eventually passed, thought I might of get the benefit of the doubt and given a chance. But it was a simple fail! GUTTED.

Loved the time down there, and although the 3 days seemed like a month (you'll see when you go) some of the lads I met were beauty. I'm not to disheartened by the outcome as I know that its what I want, and I seemed to do pretty well and loved all of it.

Scores:

3 miler - pass
Sit Ups - 80
Press Ups - 45ish
Pull Ups - 4
Bleep Test - 10.7

The hardest part for some reason was the 3 miler as we all found!, the warm up wasn't totally exhausting but was a lot more than what I had been doing, I would of said it lasted for about 15 minutes with sprints, jogging, press ups, thrusts and more sprints. I would seriously recommend doing these no matter how fit you think you are! find a field and just beast yourself! 50 meters here 50 meters there. I think the problem that did a lot of the lads in was that bloody truck, the run started and I was at the back and by the time I got passed the thing the front runners were about 100meters so was always chasing to get back up there, whether it was the warm up or not I don't know but that seemed a lot harder than I have done before (SO WARM UP ACCORDINGLY!).

Gym Test 1 wasn't to bad a few jogs to warm up, a few press ups etc and straight into the bleep test.
Then onto the Press Ups, Sit Ups and Pull Ups
All basic stuff to be honest and that was day one over, one more to go and loving it!

Day 2

Got shown the assault course and how to conduct each obstacle, first obstacle "Tank Trap", Ran up and proceeded to slip by an appropriately placed banana skin (or so I hoped) and half way over knew this was going to be close, landed a foot short and started to wave my arms about looking like a clown trying to get my balance and fell backwards, Great start. The rest were pretty basic scramble net, monkey bars etc, then the timed run. This was as hard! am gonna have to make excuses on this and blame the weather, I was soaked through and slipping all over the place!

Then bottom field, I did have doubts with this as some people have wrote numerous things on here saying its hell and so on, but I found this probably the easiest, all you have to do is keep going and don't give up, some people were walking and still passed.
All it is, is a few sprints, press ups in the mud!.

That’s pretty much it, to get a pass I believe all you have to do is get good scores in gym test 1, they say they look at you overall on the course and they probably do but some lads did not have a clue on anything and seemed a bit distant if you know what I mean and still passed!.

All the corporals and sergeant were spot on and surprisingly laid back, no room inspections nothing.

So 3-4 months I will be be back down and looking forward to it.

Good Luck to everyone

ONE TIP:

SPRINT TRAINING IS VITAL

P.s Good Luck Gordon, George and Daz

Tough run of things Chris. Did you pull out when you got injured or did you try and carry on?

I agree with you about the assault course, I think it was the hardest bit, especially when you're soaked through.

Good scores though, at least you can take that away from it. How long did they give you before you go back?

Its a damn shame that you got injured so close to finishing the course mate, all the best for your next go in May !

Any idea how many passed the course ?

I found this weird too. Purhaps its because they want to see what you can do at your lowest eb without encouragement.

I'm not sure if i understand why you failed. Can you explain please?

Unlucky there Chris, sounds like you were definetly fit enough to pass so in 3-4 months it should be a walkthrough for you. At least you realised what i did from my PRMC, you dont need to be super fit to pass as long as you just dont quit even if your only running at 1mph. Keep up the training and nail your next PRMC and i'll see you down there. All the best.

So they failed you because you got injured or did you not feel you could carry on?

Hi guys im new here - WTF is up with that ?! shouting at you for encouraging others :o

I thought this course was about spotting who had potential and who didnt and surly a proper Royal would encourage his mates and others when things get tough, so surly you showed POTENTIAL

In the P-Company video they approve and encourage....er encouragment as a sign it takes guts and determination to help others keep moving along when your blowing outta your arse, ya know!! (just an example of the top of my head not para/marine bashing)

Ah well unlucky mate - at least you got the jist of things and next time you'll have an advantage: you'll be less nervous 'cos you've been there before and everyone else will be shitting a brick

Hope i'll be down there in a few months aswell lads, train, train, and train some more....

Hi chris, thats a real shame you didnt pass mate! you seemed to be doing so well too.
keep your chin up bud, you were there at the end and know you are capable of passing!
i know what you mean about getting wiped out mate, almost happend to me a number of times when we were sprinting about. Some people dont seem to have much spacial awareness and will quite happily bash into you or cut you up ect without a care in the world lol.

It’s all done on a points system nothing else, people say that they know how “Mr Smith” only did 18 press ups etc but he showed that much determination he passed!!, am sorry but that’s a load of bo**ocks, no way you would pass like that!.

Apart from the sit ups my scores were pretty crap, worked this out roughly as to what the sergeant explained to me, you get 6 points for a maximum score

80 Sit Ups = 6 points
45 Press Ups = 3 points
Pull Ups = 2 points
Bleep Test = 1 point
Assault Course = 1 point

13 points from a possible 30 is not good!! So would you put me through? Like they said they spend something along the lines of £40,000 per recruit in their 32 week training, so why risk it.

Cheers mate, will be going down to do a lot better next time though.

Think about 25 passed so out of 50ish not many

Hope you go to do it again mate

Remember hearing the PT say something along the lines of if the need encouraging on the first day then they shouldn’t be here which I suppose is a fair point

Cheers George, next time am just going to look after number one and fu*k everyone off and get me head down. Hope it goes well for you.

So chris, did u fail because you had to be pulled out before the end because of your injury, or did you pull yourself out, or did you get to the end and they said you'd failed?
