PRMC coming up and still injured! Getting worried about CV.

Hey guys,
got my PRMC on the 30th of this month and I am starting to get a bit worried about my cardio as I have shin splints still ( I am getting treatment for it from a pysio.) and I am feeling a bit sluggish. I have been doing loads of cycling and cross training every day, but still feel like im puttin on a little weight and slowing down a bit.
Does anyone know how I can get a really good cardio workout so once my treatments done and Im at my PRMC I wont fail for having crap CV?!
My upperbody is getting pretty good. did a personal best today in situps.. 90 situps in under 2 mins. I have been doing weight work and that so would it be a good idea to drop the weights until i can get proper cardio in?

Keep cycling & swimming mate, should keep you on top of things until your legs are good again.

euro_andrew, i know how you feel. I suffered from shins splints for over a year and nothing seemed to work, i could not get rid of them. I decided to go for my prmc not having done much running at all. All my cv work was done cross training in the gym, 20mins bike, 20mins cross-trainer thing, and a 20min swim (on a good day). I felt like i wasnt fit enough at all, and was bricking myself over the whole thing, especially, the 3 mile run. I could not sleep at all on my first night. but, i passed without too much trouble. After prmc, as a last resort ,i visited an acupuncturist who said she could treat the problem with 4-6 sessions. After 2 sessions, i was running 2 miles pain free, i completed my treatment, i get the odd ache now and again, but as long as im not dramatically increasing the milage like i used too, i can happily run and its off for rt on the 22nd! cant wait
Anyway, My honest opinion is that prmc is hyped up hell of a lot, dont get me wrong, its not a walk in the park, but it certainly wasnt hell on earth like i was led to believe. You'll have enough time after prmc to clear up those damn splints.

alright mate,
i had the bain that is shin splints back in the summer and decided to cancel my PRMC because i just couldnt get the running in - looking back on it now though, i wasnt fit enough at the time so it was probably a good thing.
have you read my post on getting orthotics for your feet - i had customs made and it has honestly worked a miracle on me legs, i never get any pain at all now where as before i was crippled just from working a 6 hour shift! have a search for the post.
a short term soloution for your PRMC - which i used untill i got my orthotics and passed PRMC - is painkillers. i went to the doc and told him i had PRMC coming up and hadnt got any orthotics yet but was looking for a short term soloution just to get me a pass.
he prescribed me diclafenac (sp?). theyre a really strong painkiller and after i week i felt no pain. i know this isnt good as your body is damaging itself, but for short term it must be ok (if the doc ok'd it) - i started using my orthotics the week i got back from ctc and binned the painkillers straight away.
just an idea - im no doctor so dont take this as gospel - just worked for me!
hope you get everything sorted pal and good luck for PRMC... DONT GIVE UP!

Cool.. I have been seeing a pysio and he recons its because my arches are collapsing.. Im going to try to do his excersizes to keep them up. but yeah I think orthotics might be the best bet.
how much did yours cost?

Mine cost around £300, i had two pairs made up though and they are worth every penny!

I had 1 pair and they alone cost me £250
They do work wonders though.

It's not that long until the 30th is it really. So if you really can't get the miles in running, beast yourself in the pool, it's still a really good workout. I know it's different, but it's still good. Interval training on the bikes may help as well. You could also do weights circuits, if you do them with as little as possible between sets it really gets your heart up.

honestly fella don't worry about c.v down there do your best and youll have nothing to worry about . good thing that worked for me cv wise was H.I.T high intensity training lifting weights, light ones for high reps and continuous sets, that did actually get me fitter. good luck.
