I am looking for some help identifying a beret that I saw a soldier wearing today. It was a light green olive coloured with what seemed like a black background on the cap badge, I was unable to tell what the cap badge was from a distance. Does anyone have any ideas as to the origins of this beret please?

Are you sure he wasn’t RM
The only green berets in the Army I can think off is the Royal Green Jackets, Royal Irish, Int Corp and I think Adjutant General's Corps.

It could well have been nearly any Infantry beret, without a description of the cap badge it would be impossible to tell exactly which one. The light olive (often known as brown) beret is worn by the Guards companies, Royal Anglians, Green Howards, PWRR plus many others. Amuch darker green beret (often mistaken as black) are worn by the LI, Royal Irish Regiment The Royal Gurkha Rifles and the RGJ.

Match the colour, as spence says though you really need the cap badge to narrow it much further.
