Final Selection Board

Forgive me if this seems a daft question, but it's something I'm not entirely clear on.

What criteria do the Final Selection Board (for Officer Training) look at. I would have thought that once you had passed POC and AIB that would show that you have the potential to become a RM Officer, but I have read one or two posts on here from people that have managed to pass both POC and AIB yet have been rejected by the FSB. What grounds would this be on?

I would be gutted if I were to get through POC and AIB and then get turned down at the final hurdle, and my heartfelt sympathies go out to anyone who has had this happen to them.

chris, there was a guy on my PRMC last month who had passed both the POC and AIB but was turned down at the FSB. im pretty sure he said it was because they had enough candidates for that time and simply didnt need any more!?
he was a crackin fella and pretty much every one thought he was officer material.

There are only so many places availble for YO training, so I believe the job of the Final Selection Board is to select the best candidates for those places, which I guess comes directly from the top scores of POC and AIB combined.

So basically it seems to be a case of making sure you're 110% prepared before POC and AIB and then blitzing them both to get the highest scores possible - sounds so simple when you say it like that, if only!

It's purely based on merit, they take the people with the best AIB scores (i think that the POC factors into this score to a small extent). Last year they had about 58 places and i believe twice as many people passed both. Physically you should be one of the strongest candidates on your POC to stand a gd chance. Harsh but fair, YO training is an honour.

they only take the best scores from the poc and the aib and if you do not get a place then you have to complete your poc and aib all over again
harsh but thats how the system works!
