MattyB,
After a period of service (I think it's 3 years), any trade from any of the services can apply to attend selection for 22 SAS. You will not become an SF armourer; you will join a Squadron as a Trooper as would anyone applying. REME will remain your parent unit and you will return to this at the end of your tour.
There are a number of other posts available, but for obvious reasons people tend not to discuss these on an open forum. I suggest you either speak to your CO or give the Regiment a call - the number will be found on the respective DIN/DCI.
Cheers

You can put your name foward for SAS selection through your Coy Commander. As long as you have 3yrs plus soldiering and are fit enough and i suggest a very good map reader. Members of all the armed forces are welcome to apply, dosn't matter what regiment you belong or what you do. Guards Para's Marines, RCT Cooks dosn't matter as long as you can beat the clock, and have what it takes.
