do you have to be in the paras to take selection for pathfinders if so for how long?.

pathfinders are part of the parachute regiment so yes and i think u have to have served in one para first but im not sure on that so dont quote me on that one

i dont thin it has to be 1para but agen im not sure. the pathfinder selection course is tough and similar to the SAS!they are a step down from spec forces, akin to brigade patrol troop of RM, so you really do have to be an excellent soldier.

yeah i would judt set ur sights on gettin through p coy first then maybe specialising in something that would go towards it such as recon or signal stuff

No, at least im led to beleive. all courses of this nature are open to anyone in the armed services.

you - and your incorrect. In the past you had only to be in the reg, battalion was irrelevant. Now its open to all.

And why specialise? Go for it and if you pass they will teach you everything you need to know.

PF is indeed tri-service, although I think its obvious where most of the fella's come from given it's deep ties and history with the Regiment. They have also been a seperate Brigade asset since the mid-eighties, first with 5 Airborne and now with 16 Air Assualt.

(like when going for special forces)

Yes you have to have done at least 3 years and have atleast 2 years left.

You dont need to be in for 3 years to go for PF. Guys have passed after being in the army for just 2 years.

Probably not. Thats just from the literature ive seen. It may be different for different arms and services.
