Age Limits RMR

After some advice please.
After a short career as a weekend warrior a few years back, I'm getting a strong longing to wear camo again and spend my freetime getting cold and wet, so the RMR seems like a good idea. The only problem I've got is my age- I'm a poor old 40 year old. However I'm still pretty fit and can piss 10k runs and more. Recently the government brought in the age discrimination act to stop wrinklies like me being excluded from applying for jobs, but does it apply to the forces?
The SAS(R) would consider me but they say the RAF who run the para jump courses wont let anyone over 40 on a course. They're worried about my zimmer frame catching in my chute apparently.
But seriously, any ideas? I know that there are troop shortages and it seems strange to rule out fit(ish) old boys like me. Cheers.

Official website says between 17 - 30 so probably not.

Although I think when in the green bible it says that exceptions are made from time to time so you never know. Best to talk to your local AFCO, explain your situation (Ie. that you are fit and have experience in this field) and see if they are willing to take you on.

Oh yeah, there's a separate forum (towards the bottom of the main page) on Reserve forces so this will probably get moved soon.

As you say you have previous military experience so that would probably go in your favour, your best bet is to phone the nearest detatchment.

The military are usually exempt from policies such as the Age Discrimination Act due to the nature of their work.

However, I think the TA are a lot more flexible in terms of who they will take on than the regulars are, although 10 years over the limit is a lot, but just give it a try you have nothing to loose and the worst they can say is no.

Good luck with it matey.

Hello mate, I know that there were some guys on the last selection that were 36 odd. You may have a chance and past experience does count, so as Borisimo says contact your local det. Most will be having an induction night tonight. 1st Wednesday of each month and get yourself down there.

If you can't make it then give them a call and ask for the induction team, chances are they will just say come down anyway!

Good luck dude!
