Hi,
I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can explain full and half regains for me. I would like to practice these techniques, I have a nice sturdy tree branch near my house that wouldnt break hopefully

. Ive been trying to figuire it out all day, even got one of them fighting fit programs but none of the videos ever show the whole of the technique. I think it may be for security reasons or something.
Thanks
Mitch

A full reagin is where you drop down and hang from the rope holding on by just your hands and then you have to get back on top of the rope an continue to crawl across.
Not to sure about the half

Why are you practising them now? It’s like running with weight, there is no point until you get to training, but whatever. If you are going to practice it, I would say practice it on a rope rather than a branch, as an immovable object (i.e. branch) will be a lot easier. So by the time you get to training you will have all sorts of problems as you wont be used to it on a rope.
I think the half regain is just when you kinda spin round under the rope then back on top without falling off.

I have to admire your endeavour and commitment, but i have to say if i ever saw anyone 'practising' regains on a tree branch i would literally wet myself.
I think you should wait till you get to CTC.
Regains are done on a overhead rope, like the one over the tank on bottom field. (on that one actually). There is a correct technique that you will be taught, when you need to be. I wouldn,t worry about it till then.
But if you do give it ago, please please send me a pitcture.

I believe there is one shown in the video from FHM when one of thier guys tried the Commando training.
I think there also may be some footage on the fighting fit software..
To be honest, they don't look too hard, so i'd agree with dwarfy. (No harm in trying it out tho i guess!)

Arent you the same guy that went down to lympstone to practice the endurance course?
What are you going to do next, buy a rifle and learn how to strip it down

Lunatic!
A Half Regain is what is says on the tin. You drop down from the rope however, your feet remain in contact with rope so all you have to do then is simply spin back over the rope regaining your position and crack on.With a full Regain you would do as some one mentioned above, drop completly down with just your hands remaining in contact with the rope. This is the point where people have problems they dont get a good enough swing to hook thier feet back on to the rope and eventualy suffer from fatigue and fall into the ogin.

nufc_rulz,
If I could find an SA80 and practice weapon handling drills, just to prepare for the marines, id definetly jump at it

. The branch is in a local wood, just happened to walk by it one day while walking the dog

. As for what other crazy things I may attempt, I am thinking of living in this same local wood for a week, well just sleep there at night and then go back to my house/college in the day

. Ive already started doing load carrying (walked back 16 miles from college the other day), dont wanna run with weight yet though, tried it before, to much damage/stress.
Thanks for replies, hopefully I can make something of the advice and carry out a perfect full regain using......a tree branch

.
Cheers,
Mitch

Not sure if I should be encouraging this but it's always nice to see people who are keen.
Regain technique:
Start off hanging down from the rope by your hands (one on either side)
Pull your chest up to the rope
Throw your head back and your hips up
Hook your right foot over the rope
That's the physically hard bit done, from here on it's all technique. This is where you start for the half regain.
Walk your hands up the rope; this should bring your body closer to it. Make sure you end up with your left hand a little further from your feet than your right.
Pull yourself up to the rope with your head on the right hand side.
Leaving your hands as they are, hook your right elbow over the rope.
Put your left arm over the rope, so that the rope ends up wedged in your armpit, keep your left arm straight, palm upwards.
Move your right hand down to just above your right knee.
Swing your left leg up then as you swing it back down you've got to do several things at the same time: push your left hand down (keeping it straight); look and stretch up the rope; push yourself up with your right hand.
With a bit of luck you should now be on top of the rope with a lovely little regain bruise starting to develop in your left armpit (that's how you know you're doing it right)
Where your head goes is important so remember to throw it back when you’re starting the full regain and remember to look up the rope.
Good Luck!

I practise with my rifle down at the TA base at the moment, so if i pass PRMC, i will already know most of the drills and how to striop down a weapon etc already, ill look like a smartypants
