Just been discussing this with briggfoot on MSN, thought id see how many of you lads and ladies have seen it, and what you thought of it?

Incase you didnt know, its a reconstruction film about the Royal Marines down in the Falklands war, 1982, Filmed on the Falklands itself. It has some good ratings and won a BAFTA award.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134178/

I picked it up just after Christmas for a fiver, i expected a bit more action but overall it was worth the watch.

Anyone else seen it, got anything to say?

Saw it on telly 1992, it was made as part of the tenth anniversary for the conflict.

Thought it was fantastic. Taped it and it only snapped a couple of years ago so might look for it on dvd/ebay for a couple of quid.

Favourite bit is the islander with the scottish accent carying a white flag through a firefight.. A marine asks the question [not word for word mind, haven't seen it for a while..] "what the fook r u doing?" he replies.. "its alright for you, but some of us have to get to work!".

Classic.

Good film - shame our film industry is all f@#k up in general, leading to culture, social and identity problems.

I agree with clarky.

Some movies on Our Marines would be good every now and again.

Oh and JARHEAD some of you may have seen advertised on telly, movie coming out about USMC, its crap, i watched it when i was in USA in november!

I watched the ungentlemanly act last night, and i must say i was bored stiff may have been cos i was knackered.

What was wrong with Jarhead mate? Not what you were expecting or just plain crap? Read the book and I'd like to see the film.

As for films like An Ungentlemanly Act, there's Tumbledown, which I haven't seen but seems to have mixed reviews on Amazon and the IMDb.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any relatively unknown Brit war films or series (except Ultimate Farce :o), although if you want an alternative point of view to the American side of war, what about Cross of Iron, Das Boot or Stalingrad.

I thought Jarhead was great, it isn't an action movie so don't go in expecting to see one. It was about the aspects of war other than the battles, and how it affects the relationships with the people back home.

It touched on the boredom that comes with waiting during a war, and since Desert Storm was fought mostly from the air there was an abundance of boredom on the USMC's part, was interesting to see how Swofford progressed from a reasonably sane guy to an utter nutter :D

yeah i thought Jarhead was going to be this action filled movie,

The bit when they are int he cinema watching that movie singing that song will the usa are bombing (Korea i think) that was cool,

and excuse the pun but that job he gets when he is demoted in the desert is crap!

In USA its was previewed as an action film.

Geordie, i dont suppose you know the name of that navy movie just come out in USA, with the rich young bloke from Spiderman 2? william defoes son in the movie?

That movie trailered when i was there and looked really really good.

I would deffinatly watch jarhead again!

That movie they're watching in the cinema is Apocalypse Now mate, I can't believe you haven't seen it!! That scene is great, I believe it's "Ride of the Valkyries" that the choppers are playing on the way to blow the s**t out of Vietnam. Fantastic attack sequence.

I haven't served in the forces (yet) but I'd assume that anyone serving would love the movie! Absolute class - although it's a bit long.

The trailer does make it look like an action movie but I'd do the same to get more thoughtless action fans to buy the tickets!

As for that Annapolis I hadn't even heard of it until Brian- linked it, I'm not much of a movie fanatic :o Will check out the trailer later
