1.5 mile times....hmmmm

Allright folks, I'm a little concerned. Am I going to be a slow bastard doing the 1.5 in 10.30 at RSC? Or will there at least be a few people eating the little bit of dust I kick up?
Reason I'm asking is that my time of 10.30 was a pretty decent one when I was training to be a firefighter back home in Canada. There were only a few of the lads that would do it in 9.30 or less, but it seems everyone on this site posts times comparable!! Or maybe nobody admits that they're slow like me?
Haha, I'm hoping maybe there is some miscalculation as our runs were called "2.4km" rather than 1.5mile!!
Either way I'm stepping up my running program...tuning the engine a bit.

2.4 km is 1.5 miles, and your time isnt that bad but i supose it could be improved, Most the people on this website get between about 9 and 10 minutes.
how old are you, and whats your hieght and wieght?
i know that the pjft times for the navy are 12.20 for 16-25 year old lads
dunno if that helps-oh yeah and i think that people are being honest when they post their times here because most of the people at my college did it in under 10

to be honest there are probably plenty of ppl out there who will run 1.5 miles alot faster than 10 but as long as you do it in the given time it doesnt really matter because its not really a race against other people.

oh i thought it was asking for best times?
Sorry mate!
The best way to improve it is to just do it over and over again!

1. More salad, less pie!
2. Deposit Playstation in garbage and pry arse of couch.
3. Just say, "No", to Rotten Ronnies.
4. Avoid psychological crutches at all costs.
5. Place one foot in front of t'other very fast, many, many times.
That is absolutely no help whatsoever, is it. Oh, well. (Sigh)

Incrementaly increase the speed each time you use the treadmill, doesnt have to be loads...even just 0.1MPH each time and max out the treadmill for the last 400metres.

Thanks for the replies folks...and Anglo, thanks for the list, haha!
I think I'll just start chasing the greyhounds in Tooting Bec Common park...seems to be quite a few!
I'm pretty impressed with many of the people's times here...shows the dedication! I'm nearly 25, so in a year or so I'll be in a slightly slower class...which doesn't help the application process. I just want to get the best time possible, especially since basic training sounds brutal!!

Well 1.5mile run times only apply to the PJFT which is done on treadmill. If there wasnt a PJFT I would say dont use the treadmill at all...

Altho sometimes one day a week it might be good to lessen the impact on your joints and go treadmill and x-trainer instead.

Treadmills are indeed dreadfully boring, and not nearly as challenging as running outside, due to weather, surfaces, and wild animals. One thing I've learned about training on treadmills is to have the incline to at least level 2 to get more of an "outside" training session. I think Chappy's right, though...ease up on the joints now and then with a treadmill, but do so with a bit of an incline.
