A short “Hello”
Posted: Tue 14 Jun, 2005 4:01 pm
At the urging of an associate of mine from another military-related internet forum, I have registered here.
I, obviously, go by the screen name of “Clockwise” (Yes, there is a story behind that that one day I may possibly share with some of you).
I hail from Dallas ,Texas.
I am a former United States Marine, having served from 1983-1993.
I joined the Texas Army National Guard in 2003 at the same rank which I was when I left the Marine Corps – Sergeant (E-5).
I trained to become a M1A1 Abrams Tank Commander (a new MOS for me), completing that training at the end of July 2004.
Two weeks later my unit was mobilized for service as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
After training from August 2004 through the end of December 2004, we were deployed to Kuwait and then Iraq.
Even though we are an Armor unit, we have been deployed basically as Mechanized Infantry, and as a part of the U.S. DoD “transformation” process, our unit will permanently become an Infantry unit upon our return to the United States (The 49th Armored Division, which was the entire Texas Army National Guard, has already become the once famed WWI and WWII unit, the 36th Infantry Division – of which my unit is a part).
I am currently at home in Dallas, TX, enjoying the last past of my R&R period, and will soon be returning to Iraq.
As a side note, I have a special affinity for my brothers and sisters “across the pond”, as my father was a WWII veteran and served in Europe – Yes, he was overpaid, oversexed, and over there! - not to mention the connection between the U.S. Marine Corps and the Royal Marines.
I think that should be a good enough introduction.
I cannot say that I will be visiting here often – at least not at first – but I will stop by from time to time as I am able.
Until then, “Cheers!”
