Hello

Starting my RA phase 2 on the 31st of may, and we have been given our postings and i choose 29 commando, ive got all the info i can on the AAC and the pre AAC course but they only that run that 4 times a year as far as i know what happens in between that? Do i go to plymouth or do i stay at okehampton camp, I havnt got a clue! When i turn up at 29 commando with my blue beret, how will they treat me? i would like to imagine that as long as i work my ass off they wont treat me like shit. I know ill proplably get the piss taken out of me for not being commando trained hehe but thats a part of life

Not sure of 29's policy but when I was with 59 lads were drafted to it inbetween Beat-up courses aslong as there was a billet free and a job to do.

Most however joined for the beat-up. Inbetween courses they either remained at their old unit or at their training establishment.

But what with the beat-up lasting a month and the all arms itself nearly 2 and a bit 4 courses a year fills the quota. You may find yourself manning a main gate somewhere waiting a course date. The next few may even be full so they could post you elsewhere to consolidate your trade as you await a commando course.

No-one used to join 59 to wait a course and do phys etc, they arent holding units. Things may have changed now, I have heard there is a "hunter" type troop in 59 for lads who have potential but are injured or need more of a build up. 29 may have a similar system.

Someone more upto date maybe able to advise, but whatever it is you cant change it so concentrate on what you can do and that is Phys. Your headshed may even let you have a week on the Beacons getting some of the routes of the Beatup in .

Good luck
