Applying for POC with HND

Hiya
Ive got 1 year left on my HND Course in uni which will give me 240 UCAS Points, and i know that the RM only want 140.But, I have the option on staying on in uni for 1 more extra year to achieve a degree, but I dont really want to stay on in uni for longer than I have to if you know what i mean
A problem that I have is that I got sh*t A-levels, thats the reason that I had to do the HND and not the Degree in the first place.
Ive been speaking it over with my dad and he reckons that I should apply this year and do my POC this year and see if i can get this year rather that wasting time doing my degree when I could get in with my HND qualifications. But the problem im thinking is that other applicants will have degrees and have the upper hand over me on selection, and I dont think that it would look good on record if I fail the POC this year and then apply for it the year after I had done my extra year for the degree.

Stay on for the extra year, get your degree. You will always have your degree. You may not even get past your selection week. If you do fail you will always have your degree to fall back on.
If you do pass all the tests and eventually get your green beret, your educational quals. may well have a bearing on your future employement within the Corps.
I think I have said this before - but don't be a prat and go down the glamour route. You can do that - after you have got your degree.!!

Must agree with Sneaky.
Even if you do get in the Corps with present qualifications you may decide not to make a career of it and perhaps serve ten or twelve years as many do.
You then leave still as a young man looking for a new career in civvy street, where the better the qualifications, the better the chances.
I know from experience that going to uni as a mature student, especially if you are married, can be a hard slog. Even more so if you have to go part time and hold down a full time job as well.
Stay on and get your degree now,

I agree with sneaky (now that my feeble attempt at humour failed)
Also I would guess that the POC assessors would look more favourably at you having completed something you set out to do, than finishing it half way through to "try" something else.
Also it gives you time to train, and prepare for it (not saying you arent ready now though)
By asking the question your thinking of the future, well think what life will be like with a degree and a career as an officer behind you, also it may open more doors within the corps once your in.

You may aswell stay at uni for that extra year and make your HND a degree. Im currently at uni and training in the RMR, and it seems there are quite a few people there who plan to get their degrees and green lids whilst at uni, and then go for the POC and YO,s training.
Getting your degree will just open more doors in the future, if someone shuts a different one in your face.(failing the POC, getting an injury,etc). I,d seriously think of the RMR in the meantime, as im sure it will be looked at favourably when you apply for the POC. I know uni can be painfull at times (for different reasons to RM,s training), but the RMR have really given me something worthwhile to do other than sitting on me arse waiting for a lecture, and you,ll certainly keep up good fitness for if you join the regs as an YO after.
