Any serving or ex Rock Apes out there?-

Any serving or ex RAF Regt out there, I would be interested to know what you think of the current trend on here of people calling themselves Gnr and Rock when they haven't earned the right! I know the same happens in some of the other areas with people calling themselves Para this and Marine that. I wouldn't mind but some of these guys are giving the Regt a bad name! This may sound strange coming from a Whitecap callsign but I have many rock mates and have worked alongside them in various theatres and areas of conflict where I've always found them to be good at their job and good lads as a rule!
P.S. I think its great that some of these kids are taking an interest in the military and want to pursue a career but some of this behaviour is not healthy or in the best interests of the service!

Earn the right to a name?
Flippin eck, this aint the depot is it? I must have taken a wrong turn on the way to Uni this morning, and ended up in Bury St Edmunds or is this Colcester?
Come on now, not as if we go about wearing mudguards +raf beret screaming i passed JROC/BGT is it (well cant speak for Greengrass, sure he does and wears para wings, when he is not wearing his sand beret at weekends), to be fair also gunner is a rank so not really a name feel free to rip anyone with that who hasnt done BGT and wants to be refered to as gunner.
There was a knobber on here a while back "Jane_Future_Para" now he was a cock, screaming about the Para's all day long before getting anywhere near Colcester. Needless to say he received endless abuse before he headed up to Colester afew months back.
In realistic terms i think that serving/ex Rocks have more important things to worry about. Earning the right to be called something is more of Para way of life..Crow to Tom etc...
Problems arise when the "gnrgrassSTAINS" of this world blag and dont know when to shut their mouths because they have shyte gen on almost everything. Im not a rock nor do i pretend to be one (yet).I dont shout about dropping into Sandy land and taking an Basra Airport all by myself, nor do i recall "war stories" about JROC, because i havent done it yet.Im a part time pongo at the moment and proud of it.
I have however been trained by them and been on exercises with them, during my time on this planet and I do aspire to be one within the next year.
Now if my desire to become a Rock Officer really bothers people that much and if they really have a rod/pace stick/ 3cell maglite so far up their asses that someone who aspires to be one uses Rockape in his signin name for a fourm...then they really need to get out more.
Happy days.

This was aimed more at the types who have been posting complete shazbat! I don't think you need any pointers to the peeps I'm referring to!
Best of luck with JROC!
btw. you're right I do need to get out more but at the mo my boss thinks I'm actually working so I have to keep up the pretence!!!

I've tried it mate but they all seem to disappear off into their cots at the first hint of criticism! I'm left feeling unfulfilled and unsatisfied! and before you comment on the last bit NO,NO,NO,NO, the boss insists on a very strict dress and deportment policy in the office so I'll have till remain unfulfilled til knock off!!

most of the posters whom use these names 99% dont know naff all
mostly hearsay and bollocks from friends, or friend of friend
or someone down the pub
if it makes them feel good
whilst online
so be it
it just gets peoples backs up
and attracts criticism
but hey what are online forums for

Its a forum, who cares. For the ones that do, we all know who is serving and not and they get accordingly treated.

If I may interject on here.
There was a guy joined the Royal Artillery and because of his name, he was immediately promoted to Lance Bombardier.
His name was Rear.

I'm guessing that this thread was aimed at me so feel I should respond
the gnr at the start of my posting name comes from the fact that ever since I was big enough to lift an air rifle, my uncles have called me gunner greenhill! I use it as a web name as it also has a double meaning I'm a big gnr (guns n roses) fan.
was not my intention to offend anybody, however gnr greenhill has a nice ring to it
although I was under the impression that my rank would be aircraftsman, and then lac sac, cpl sgt etc etc. Now if I was using the web name aircraftsman greenhill then that would be out of order!

re use of gnr- gunner- wannabee- rockape or variations thereof
in the forums
pisses me off greatly
if you have not worn the mudguard you dont deserve to use it
if you dont like this all you wannabee rocks TOUGH SHIT
if i called myself any of those before i joined or whilst i was at the depot
i would have got a severe kicking
one of the best moments of my life was when i could wear the raf regiment
mudguard on my number one dress
my advice
do the f@#k course
pass the course
come back and slag whom you want
till then keep yer ears open and mouth shut
unless you are askin a sensible question
slag me off iff you like
I DONT GIVE A f@#k

The evidence above would tend to indicate that stever may harbour relatively strong feeling on the matter in question! So to the likes of Greenhill who not only use a name they haven't earned in conjunction with posting shazbat of a ludicrous nature but also argue black is white with those who KNOW better, please take note YOU are pissing people off!

1./ How did you guess?
2./ "uncles" Is that one of those "that many uncles not sure who daddy is" type comments? (just enquiring!)
3./ "big enough to lift an air rifle" size doesn't factor, maturity, respect and responsible attitude do
4./ "I'm a big gnr(guns n roses) fan" we all have a cross to bear!
5./ "was not my intention to offend anybody" yet somehow you always manage it!
6./ " and then lac sac, cpl sgt etc etc" of course because its that simple isn't it ! LAC for a year SAC for 3, and so on !!!!!!
7./ Finally what the F*&^K happened to your spelling and punctuation? its almost F*&^ing legible !!
8./ Couldn't resist one more.... I still think you're an
ARSE!!!!!
RANT OVER !

Say what you like about the kid, but please don't knock a great band
You may as well just leave the kid alone, I'm not sticking up for him but if he feels the need to try and make himself more important than he is, well thats his problem. You all know what you've done and achieved in life, just feel sorry for him as he will never feel that same sense of achievement. But what do I know

not much!
