Im still waiting a date for OASC, is that what you mean? out of interest how long from your information being sent to cranwell did it take for you to get a date? Do they write out for the references first?

Thanks

No she means the visit you have to Cranwell before you start your training, where you are issued boots, given more in depth info etc.

As for a time scale to OASC, if you have had your filter interview at AFCO, within one month you may hear if you have been called forward, giving a date to attend OASC (selection) within a few months. (This was the time scale for me and may not be the same for everyone).

live,

BH_100 is correct ... I did mean the visit which all new recruits attend at Cranwell before begining IOT... but anyway.. my timescale was as follows :-

Application Sent ; 12th October 2004
Reciept of Application by Cranwell ; 14th October 2004
Date for OASC Recieved ; 15th November 2004
Attended OASC Cranwell ; 31st January 2005
Recieved Commission Offer ; 12th February 2005
Famil Visit Cranwell ; 12/13th April 2005
Provisional IOT start date ; 29th May 2005

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask ..

It depends on Branch choice. I know of some people who have waited 4 months to recieve their dates at OASC. :(

Application sent to cranwell after filter interview 12/01/2005

Cranwell acknowledged reciept on 09/02/05 but received by cranwell on 17/01/2005.

Now Im just waiting and working hard, don't get me wrong I know I will need to be patient, but it all started last july but due to hayfever and the likes and having to change my branch choices it has taken me 8 months already....

Fingers crossed not much longer to go,

good luck welsh bird...

Live,

I know right now it seems to be taking forever ... but trust me its worth the wait .. also you dont really want to be attending c@#t the new recruitment year (starts roughly about the 1st April), when there may be a few more commissions available.

However, do remember competition is very very high right now .. it is nolonger enough just to get recommended for a commission...they now state on your final board report 'recommended subject to competition' .. which basically means you can still get a 'come back in a year' letter as many of my friends have.

So it is really important to get a good overall score ...which means it is vital to do the best you can on the fitness test...as when you do visit OASC its the only thing that you can ensure you get 4 out of 4 for.

Oh, and if you havent already i would recommend you try running the 'bleep test' before you go, as this will help you practise the turns and get an overall idea of what is required of you ...

Timeline for OASC

Hiya Live,

Just wanted to pick up on the point made by welsh bird. Even when you get to OASC, and do as well as you can you will still have to wait to hear of your fate. Being put in competition can mean you hanging around for a further six months !.

The scoring system wb mentions is important, however, its the boards president grade that matters. I scored 21 points and was recommended by the board as a 3+ the magical acceptance figure right now, however the board president marked me down to 3- and the six month wait after attending OASC was for nothing on this occasion.

The message is wait, wait and wait some more and whilst your waiting get training and swotting up !.

BTW am going back for the third, yes third and final attempt later this year, good luck !.

Vikki,

Can I ask, have you been security /medically cleared and if so how long did it take ?

I am a little worried that I may be a little tight for time, as I would like a couple of weeks off before beginning IOT and yet I have to give one month's notice...

Cheers

been medically cleared - had been temporarily unfit but that was January. med staff are dead helpful so you might want to give them a call.
got my final security interview in march but getting dv'd as going int - don't know what branch you are. again might be worth a phone call to cranwell - everyone i've spoken to was really helpful. i had to get a lot of this sorted in january as i'm travelling at the moment (currently in new zealand to make everbyone jealous - did a skydive today - amazing!!) so wanted to check everything was ok before i spent 2 months on the other side of the world!
hope that helps a bit

Live,

I am on a pretty similar time scale as yourself - my filter was 01-12-04, receipt of forms at Cranwell on 16-01-05.

And Im still waiting!
I am guessing we will now be in the March/April OASC - there was one in December last I think. That is just a guess! What are you applying for (sorry If i missed this in previous thread! - PM me :) )

You can get the Bleep Test from ebay - about £3 for a copy CD

PLus - check out www.thestudentroom.co.uk for other info on thsi subject.
Good luck Welsh Bird too!

Hey Vikki,

Just wondering if you have had your final security interview yet and if so how did it go ?

I have now been medically cleared, but have yet to find out about my security clearance - however, they wont have had it for 6 weeks until the 30th March and as the man I keep annoying at RAF Cranwell keeps telling me it takes at least six weeks !

Oh and how are things going now you are back from your travels and in the sunny UK ?

You won't get a letter saying that you have been Security cleared (at least I didn't) what you will get once its through (assuming this is the last clearance you need to get) is a letter from the Executive Officer at OASC saying that all the arrangements have been finalized for you starting IOT.

This is the formal notification of your start date at IOT .
