Could someone be really helpful and tell me the sort of questions they ask at the formal interview? (I was told to wear a shirt and tie for this 1)

Yeh.

They just talk about you, your family and your mates. But the main one is about you.

It's not hard you just have to be honest and never answer with yes or no, always answer with sentences.

You get asked stuff like what hobbies you have, what sports you do now/at school, what job do you do, why the army.

The interview is basic. They want to basically find out about you and whether or not you are motivated enough to firstly join your chosen unit, and secondly, motivated enough to be in the army.

Questions you can expect to be asked can be about family, school, current and previous sports, why you want to join the army, what your family and friends think about it, are you a team player or work best on your own, your views on the army, what your current fitness levels are like, what kind of training you are doing at the moment in preparation, and so on.

You may also be asked about the regiment you are joining. This will be usualy saved for the final interview, however they sometimes chuck in the odd question, such as, what tours are your regiment on at the moment, when were they formed, where are they based, where you think you will be training at, etc.

Your formal interview is nothing to worry about. I wore a suit and tie just to look representable. Got asked questions about my life, sport, training. Basically the interview was to find out a bit about me, and to confirm I deffo wanted to go ahead with application into my chosen regiment.

As i was informed by a mate who was an ex-recruiter for the Scots guards.

No dont do that he will get sent home.

You need to wear shirt and tie, and make sure theres no muck on your shoes.

Why? How much more effort does it take to make yourself look smart.

I'm not sure who said it on here, but you are being assessed throughout the entire recruitment process.

Don't wear jeans and T-shirt mate, turn up smart and confident.

Not loads of effort. Just make sure you have had a shower and a shave before you go and that your Shirt is ironed and your shoes are clean.

I think they mark you down on appearence and i have seen them turn people away (not singleing anyone out but it's trainer and tracky wearing chavs) for not presenting yourself right.

It's a job interview not a job centre

I had my interview today so now I have to wait another month for my second SSR Interview, (This takes a bit dosent it.)

Went well, was just like chatting to a mate.

The army can't afford to be to picky not when there short of men.

The lad across the road from me joined the guards he went to his interviews wearing trackies and trainers. He just passed out from training. If you want to wear a shirt and tie then by all means do so. It's probably the best idea but im only saying what my mate suggested to me.

I guess it depends on the NCO's at each AFCO, i know the ones at the Manchester dont like it.
