My CO recently gave me all the paperwork for this course, with not much other info. Anyone done this course?

I done the junior leaders course with the ATC, wasnt at stafford though, is this the one your talking about?

Not sure if it's the same course or not, but I know which one you;re talking about. The one I;m doing's a week long thing and you need to get a formal recommendation from your sqn commander, etc. They say you need to be really fit and not a Flt Sgt or above. Sound about right? So what was the course like when you did it, what did you do, etc?

I did the ACLC in 2000.

It's not the same as the JL course which Gunn has done. That is run over weekends between September and April each year and culminates in a week-long camp. More info here: http://www.juniorleaders.org/overview.asp My brother started the course but had to stop as he was in his final year of uni and couldn't do both of them justice.

As for the ACLC it's not that hard really. You need to be quite fit as you will do PT every morning and do log runs and orienteering and other stuff. You also have to pass the BFT on the first morining and if you fail you're binned. Other than that just make sure your admin is pretty good otherwise you're not going to get much sleep.

I don't want to tell you too much about the course as part of it should be a surprise. However, there are 3 phases. You will get to lead on command tasks in each phase and they get progressivley harder. You should also get the chance to be a flight commander and (if you're good enough) course commander.

When I did it I came away with the best cadet prize and a distinction, so it can't be that hard!

1227 (Sidcup) Squadron

i was given the opportunity to do that course but decided on doing the tri serice one at frimley which i think is more beneficial.

I know people who've done the RAF Stafford course & people who've done the Frimley Park course. From what I gather you'll learn more about leadership at Stafford than at Frimley. This is partly because of the size of the Frimley course. However, you do get to do more field orientated things at Frimley than Stafford.

oh ok.i decided on frimley because you get the field thing there. i mean stafford sounds excellent for building leadership.

Yea my friend hs done the jl course i think he was ranked 3rd overall he said if you get th chance go for it because its an amazing experience.

I did it back in 2003, loved it!
No longer an aircadet, it convinced me that the ATC couldnt offer me anything interesting anymore so joined OTC instead!
