RM Acquaint Day

Post by Butch »

Hey all, I was on an RM acquaint day yeterday up here at RMR Dundee, and it was definately the most beneficial thing I have done so far with regards to preparing for PRMC. If you get the chance to go on one of these days, go for i, it's a great chance to see how your training is going.

For those who don't know what this is all about, basically its a 1 day event, where you spend the day with trained Royal Marines who give you an insight into what to expect at PRMC, without any fluffy lining, as much information as you could need about the Royal Marines, a chance to fiddle about with some of the weapons that are in use, and most importantly, you go through gym test 1 with RM PTI's as it is done at CTC and you get to do a 3 miler as well. The point of the course is to check if you are ready for PRMC, and at the end you get debriefed by your Careers Officer on how you performed on the physical side, and how ready they reckon you are to go to CTC.

In case anyone's interested, my scores for the phys were:

VO2 Max: 11.5
Pressups: 72
Situps: 71
Pullups: 8

3 mile run: 21.04 (pass).

Jay- Its probably best to ask your AFCO for any dates that are upcoming. I only got a letter through about 2 weeks before, telling me I was on the course, never knew anything about it until then.

Danny- After POC in february, had a 12 month wait before I could even get the chance to try POC again. I had such a good time :o that i decided I'd rather crack on and try to get through PRMC and then, if possible, aim for a commission later on after gaining some experience in a unit first. Anyway, the process has taken so long that it's almost come round to February again, however, I'm 110% committed to joining as a recruit now, and am focussing solely on completing PRMC before thinking about anything else.

The same angle of attack as me then. I'm planning to join as a recruit and then (provided everything goes well of course) maybe go for a Corps Commission after a few years in a unit.

Oh, & before anyone asks "why not go for a commission straight away?" I have my reasons and it's not because I think this is the easy way of getting a commission in the Corps. If anything it's harder because you've got to pass recruit training, then be selected for a Corps Commission, then pass YO training as well.

Anyway, good luck mate. Hope it works out for you.

butch im not doubting you about your scores but at my prmc they stopped us when we got to 60 press-ups (max) and 6 pull-ups (max), they also didnt tell us our times for the run it was either a pass or fail.
how come the aquaint was different?
you want it bad enough, you will get it.

Toffee, I just kept banging out the pressups until i couldn't do any more and when I was finished, the PTI asked the boys who were counting for us what we got. On PRMC, I presume that the boys who are counting are told to stop you when you reach 60? If so, then no instruction was given to that effect. It was basically a chance to do as much as possible in the time allowed. It was the same for the pullups, we did repitions on the PTI's commands, and kept going until we were told to stop. As for the run time, since it was not a test, and a chance to assess ourselves as well as give our careers officers a chance to check our progress, we were given a results sheet at the end which gave scores for all tests and the run time.
