hello there i registered a few weeks ago but i havent posted much  i am considering a career in the Marines but i'm undecided in what to do, i am at college for another 2 years doing an ICT course which is totally shite. (i am 18 and will finish the course when im 20!!), and i really dont fancy staying at college until im 20! i want to do something with my life.

only problem is - i have a girlfrield who i have been with for a long time :x and if it wasnt for her i would have a date for my PRMC! and i know our relationship wouldnt work out if i was in the marines  but somethin is stoppin me doing something which will result in me being away from her for a long time.

i run and do the weights alot, do press ups and situps alot too so im pretty good at everything really and im quiet fit :drinking:

anyway just thought i would say hi :)

I had the same problem with the girl, when i wanted to join a while back. So i waited for about 3 years, i'm still with her but i have decided i have got to put what i want to do first. I should have done it back then. You really shouldt put something in front of what you want to do.

Bin her. She's sleeping with all your mates anyway.

she most probably is sh*gging other lads

i was going to go in the marines at 16 just after i left school, but i seen sence and had sh*te qualifications so i decided to get some before i go in, so here i am :) my mate who went in at 16 with no qualifications is in Iraq now and has loved every minute of it, i envy him, i wish i had joined up when he did (we were best mates and where going in at the same time), but i bottled it to get something that will benefit me later in life (after the corps - qualifications). Which i regret doing now.

anyway, i shall be applying in a few months andi intend to try for my PRMC next year after the 1st year of college is over - i dont want to do 2 years of 'database design' and 'how spreadsheets and ICT benefit business' because truthfully ive lost interest in it, i actually like the programming side of the course though, i find that interesting but i couldn't do that all my life, sat in an office being stressed out because you cant get a program to work, it stresses you out in class "your not going home until its working".

:drinking: :drinking: :drinking: :drinking: !!!

Ain't civilian life shit?

your not going home until its working
HM Corps has a very similar attitude, which may come as a disappointment.
"You ain't leaving here until you have got it right; it doesn't matter that it's raining/snowing/blistering hot, you are going to do it right!"

Perseverence, attention to detail and a huge love of the X factor.
Nothing is impossible, miracles take a little longer.

Ditch her mate. I'm having the same problem as we speak and its piecing me off. Getting constant grief like - 'if you really loved me you wouldn't wouldn't leave me' and other similar garbage to which i retort - 'if you really loved me, you wouldn't stand in the way of what i want.'

Don't want to sound cold hearted but opportunities like this dont come around often. You got to grab it mate.

I think ive been fairly lucky with my mrs. She has allways known ive wanted to join the Corp's so she hasn't been to bad about it. She certainly hasn't tried any of that 'if you love me, you'll stay with me' crap anyway. As far as im concerned joing up is something that has to be done for me. I spoke to a lad at CTC who got to week 20 of training and left! all because his mrs was playing up! low and behold two weeks later she binned him!!! and he left training for her! he then rejoined CTC a year later and had to go through it all again.
Afer hearing this i came to the conclusion that if my mrs starts playing up that badly, im just going to thin her out. Trainings going to be hard enough as it is, without having having to worry about somebody at home. But i think as long as your both sensible and trust eachother theres no reason why it can't work out, even if you do have your blips every now and then.

(Relationships are allways going to be a pain in the arse, whether your a civvi or Royal.)

Cheers Ian

If she's the right person she will support you in whatever you want to do, and try and make it easier, not more difficult. If I was going out with a guy who wanted to join up I would be so proud of him, not try and stop him going and make him stay in some dead-end job. Anyone who drops out for some girl, after they've claimed that this is something they REALLY want, just doesn't get a lot of respect, and has to earn it all over again second time round.

If she's really the right one for you she will support you in your career choice, and you can both work together to make your relationship work. Long distance relationships can work, and eventually maybe she can move to be with you. She should be really proud of you! It can be done I promise! :)
