Gentlefolk,
I am currently researching regiments and have become interested in the Queens Dragoon Guards. I was wondering if anyone had had any dealings with them? They recruit from my home county and I like the idea of Formation Recce (although not sure how you sneak around with 8 30 tonne tanks with support elements). Any info greatly recieved.

So why do QDG get the commando dagger? Is it mandatory for them to do the AACC? If so, why??

The reason they wear it is because they worked with 3 Cdo Bde during GW2. They are not Commando trained.

That's f***ing stupid. The commando dagger is something earned by passing the AACC. If they're handing them out to soldiers who haven't passed the course, it discredits the ones who have.

It's not the Army Commando qualification badge that the QDG wear, it's the 3 Commando Brigade tactical flash. It was awarded to the men of the unit, C Sqn I think, by Brigadier Dutton after Op Telic to acknowledge the contribution the unit made to the Brigade.

The QDG attached to 3 Commando Brigade had the distinction of spending the longest duration in constant contact with the enemy during Op Telic, about 20-odd days or so. After the war, the unit received quite a few honours and awards in recognition of their achievements in Iraq.

Having worked alongside them in Iraq, my own view is that they were a very professional and well-trained unit. They were constantly in the vanguard, quite often receiving massive quantities of incoming fire. The 'int' they gathered, and the effect of the weapons mounted on their vehicles, were often decisive in the asymmetric threat on the Al Faw and surrounding area.

I think that it is only the members of the QDG that served with the Comandos that get to where the dagger...But i may be wrong...

Read the link before you start spouting boll**s. It was awarded to them, They do not wear the green lid, if you have a real beef I suggest you take it up with the Marines

I wasn't having a go at you, and I never doubted what you said. I just don't think anyone should be awarded the commando dagger if they haven't passed the commando tests. Rockape cleared that one up, though, didn't he?

Now can I suggest some anger management sessions?

What's your problem?

If new recruits for QDG fresh out of training who have never served with RM were awarded the commando dagger, it would be wrong. Rockape pointed out that this is not the case, and they wear the flash. I'm happy with that, so why are you still giving me lip? I wasn't having a go at you, like I keep pointing out. So stop mouthing off and getting defensive, and go and have an yoga session or something. Wind your bloody neck in.

Oh, and try and pass the AACC before calling it "poxy" eh? I wouldn't call a 30 mile yomp "poxy" but you're obviously better than that?

Everyone I know who has done those commando tests say they're the hardest thing they've ever done. They're done by RM's and any support arms wanting to work alongside them. You try telling someone who's done the tests that they are poxy. And tell them you're better than that, while you're at it. Just let me know when, so I can come and watch.

You bow to my "superior knowledge?" You're the one discrediting a course you've never done. I've met people who've done the course who say it's rock hard. Then there's you, who hasn't done it, saying it's "poxy." Who would you listen to? Why don't you go back and read all your posts and all mine and see who sounds like an arrogant t**t? I wasn't trying to argue, but you had to mouth off.

PS my father in law did 22 yrs in the guards. He told me the AACC is probably the hardest cours in the Army to pass.
