We've had a few of these types on here recently, so I was wondering who came up with the term, and why? :-?

Rabby go down to Para forum, and enter General Disc, there's a subject 'Walter Mitty strides again'. One of the lads, H I believe, who posted about the original Mitty.
Basically someone who dreams he or she is something he is not, and invariably never will be. Case in point; Airborne, Hawkeye, Airborne Nutter, One Nation, Drum & Base solider etc etc. They are an anal stimulus. Also referred to as Wannabees.

D&B and all his contempories have been binned. These Mittys/wannabees and dead heads detract from a great site. People come onto these forums for intellectual stimulus, fun, information, and renewal of friendships. There is no requirement for little boys or girls, (because we had a boy and girl sharing the same computer) coming onto the site and creating ill will by posting questions such as "which is best Royal or Paras - what do you think?" The questions are moronic, and the resultant frustration of the members is unavoidable.
It has been decided to promote a hard line approach to these nerds. One warning then offski. I commend the motion to the house! 8)

Walter Mitty by James Thurber is a short story about a guy who has a tendancy to live trebble lives. He has done all and seen all... if you were the pilot of a light aircraft he was the fighter pilot who saved you. His storys were not just unbeleivabl;e but complete bull $hit with the sole reason of making you think he was some sort of ledgend. He was all that he wanted to be and more.

The James Thurber story was also made into a film starring Danny Kaye, in which his imaginary exploits were portrayed as dream sequences.

I saw the movie many moons ago, and reckon it was well done. Danny Kaye was perfect for the part.
I know there are a lot of wannabees out there, but just can't understand why they do it :-? We had a recent case of a guy down here who attended every Anzac day march sporting a chestful of tin, , until it was revealed he was never in the services!! What a fraud! It's a bit rough when you don't know whether the guy that you're chatting with is fair dinkum!
How do you spot these types Prez? and good on yer for giving them the big A.

They may have read all the books and seen the videos, but they were never there. 8) Most of us have a sixth sense when BS is being spun, we do give people the benefit of the doubt, but when they claim membership of SB etc it's Sayonara. Airfart dragged down the image of the Para recruits, and as Lean Green upset the Paras on their web site; little boys without lives.

The reason we spot these people is simple. Rob, Sticky and myself, read every post every day. Trends are very apparent. We have our own ways of informing each other of such trends. Frequently, offensive posts will be "modified" and the poster informed as to why. We never bin anyone without referring to each other. But we are starting to adopt a less lenient approach, which will result in fewer posts by these winkers. Should you find one of these Walters, or any other poster who you find does not fit in with the general flow of this site, do not hesitate to grass them up :P When it was just Bootys on here, we didn`t have a problem.

James Thurber ripped off the story of Baron Von Munchausen. The good Baron gave his name to two medical conditions, one is "Munchausens` Syndrome" where the subject has to tell ever un-beleivable storys to gain attention, and "Munchausens` By Proxy" where the subject creates situations where they can intervene, either in a life-saving way, or a "just missed" sort of way( As per Beverly Allott)
Walter Mitty was a harmless soul, however some of the Walters we have had on here( and 2 Para site) have been far from harmless. They are all trace-able, however. They will be found out. Airhead`s headmaster was not best pleased, by the way
Off to do me homework before mummy gets in, cya l8r
