Just wondering if anyone knows how many places are available for cdos for the above.
Can remember hearing that earning your wings gives an extra 2.5k on your salary.
Do RM get to jump outta planes regardless ?

You can definitely get your jump wings; I'm sure someone will be able to shed more light on this, but I think it partly depends on specialisation and partly on what training your unit goes on!! I think, for example, MLs are para trained, and BRF (may be wrong on either count though).

I think Arameis is correct, ML's and recce troop guys all have jump training, and I think others can apply for jump courses if they want to, but I don't think it's mandatory for regular bootnecks.

I was told that there are more parachute trained royal marines than paras by my AFCO and also that a YO just out from training has the oppertunity to command a para platoon as the para's are vastly short of lower ranking officers and the RM's are over producing officers. Interesting thought eh?

Minimac, I completely agree with you mate, that there is nothing regular about Bootnecks, I was just referring to those not in specialist units such as M & A warfare and recce troops. In fact I've got my PRMC on June 21st, so I hold all Bootnecks in the highest regard and only hope I am good enough to join them.
Cheers mate,
Josh.

It's definitely not part of regular training.

First, the comparison of para-trained RMs to Paras is unfair. You are comparing 3 Cdo Bde to the Parachute REGIMENT. In that if you compare 3Cdo Bde to 16 AAB; I think you would find that there are far more parachute-trained soldiers than RMs (considering every soldier in 16 AAB is Para-trained!).
Secondly, I can assure you the Paras are not short on YOs by a long way. Infact it is the Paras who have to 'lend' officers of all ranks to other Regiments because of dwindling numbers.
Even though I don't normally post here please note: I am not anti-RM in any way shape or form - I just wanted to clear up those points.

Thanks for putting me straight. No rubbishing of the paras was meant, just what my navy recruiter told me.

No worries, we all know what the recruiters are like.

Not unless they're serving curry for lunch.
Back on topic, I was told by an ex para that to qualify for the extra pay (£5 added onto the daily rate) you have to be in a unit that might use the qualification, eg MLs, SBS etc I'm not sure if your average marine would qualify as being in a unit that would need para training though.
