Bring a pair of cycling shorts too. If you have big legs like me, they start killing after 3+ miles of rubbing together. They also dry out alot faster when you get soaked on exercises.

Foundation is the first 3 weeks in the marines where you're just learning admin basics and other stuff, like watching loads of H&S videos :( . First 2 weeks are spent in a huge room that accomodates the whole troop (60+), after week two you move into the 6 man grotts. Then on parents day you're allowed to remove your orange tabs (orange tape which is worn where the rank markings are) which signify you're in foundation! :D After foundation you get the weekend off to go home, most guys do, but you can stay on base (like I did) and go on the piss for the weekend, although if you stay on base you'll have to be back by 23:59 everynight, so i'd recommend getting a few guys together, who are not going home and head down to newquay or somewhere for the weekend where you can have a proper weekend away. Your training team will be more than happy to give you info on any "establishments" that you might want to visit! (at least my training team were) :o

Nothing much changes, except you don't wear the orange epaulettes anymore, which sort of protect you when you have them on i.e. you won't be beasted around because you didn't salute an officer or something, or you walk straight onto the parade square without permission etc. After foundation you'll be expected to be able to administer yourself properly on base and also in the field by yourself. You'll be allowed to go into exeter on weekends also.
