poor pjft?

I've just done my pjft in what looks like a poor time (i see some of you whippets have done it in sub 8:40!) of 9:53. To be honest I am pretty pleased with that as I havent done any running in six weeks due to shin splints ( I'am not the fastest anyway!), prmc isn't for a couple of months so I know I've got time to improve, but would just like to know if they ever hold a poor time against you. Also would like to know if they carry out urine tests on the prmc - not that I'am a smackhead or anything, just that Iam thinking of taking creatine for a bit to help with my recovery (and to put on a bit of muscle!) and I wouldn't want it to be held against me. I have tried the search but to no avail, any answers/advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

I wouldn't worry about it mate, i had gastro-entroitus when i took mine and subsequently i got 10.08 but when i got down there (prmc) no one said anything. -I think they take your pjft and use it as a bench mark for your bleep ie good time 9.30=level 13, so if you improve and get a good bleep test level it will look like you've tried really hard.

Yeah, don't sweat it. Just get back to training and really attack the bleep test and 3 Miler when you do your PRMC.

Best of luck to you!

I have my PJFT next tuesday (13th April) so I had a go at the mile and a half a couple of days ago. I managed 9:57 but could have done better. I think I'll start at 9mph instead of 8.5 for the first mile, see if that helps. I also get mild shin splints so I think more stretching is the key to lessen that.
I also get funny looks from other gym-goers because im going pretty much full pelt for 10mins. They just don't understand.

good luck to all.

Yeah, just go all out on it. It's only 1.5 Miles so you don't need to save any for afterwards.

i was under the imperession that running machines only went up 16Kmph. My time would have been alot faster if the machine went quicker. Ive been to a few gyms around my area and have not yet come across one that goes faster than said speed.

Dont worry about it fella, i got a poor score on my pjft think it was about 9:40 and i wasn't injured. But now i can do it in 8:10 or less. on your prmc you will see the difference the determination takes over and you wont believe how fast you can do the 3miler

I was a bit gutted when I got my time (10.01) considering everyone else's on here, but at the end of the day they haven't turned me away or anything, just need to crack on with training now.

mate to be honest the only reason why i got my time was becuase the woman running the machine for me set the goddamn machine to mph when i asked for kph... i almost (well not really but hey) didnt finish the run cos i was so outta breath come 5 minutes ( was running 10mph - about 17kph for the first 5 minutes, a full 2kph more than id ever ran before, but had to slow down to 8.summat to finish it). PJFT doesnt *really* mean much, as long as you are training hard, and put a decent hard performance in at CTC for the PRMC then im hoping thats all that counts :)

PJFT is bloody easy lads it's just there to make sure you can run. I can run for 20 mins with a 3% hill gradient with the machine on full belt (16.1kph). As there was a competition at my gym for furthest travelled (which I one). If you have problems with PJFT maybe you should consider training a few more months with Fartlek workouts etc before going for PJFT and PRMC. Fartlek a is perfect for builing your VO2 Max which is what the bleep test is measuring...

The best piece of advice I was given to improve my running was, in the sergeants own words, get off the f*%kin treadmill and get on the f*%kin roads and fields!
