The Mail carried a story today saying that our boys in Norway are having to use normal rat packs as the Government cut backs have stopped production of this essential bit of kit. Also there is a lack of cold weather cloathing.
Parents and family once again are sending food parcels.

Anyone know if this is TRUE?

If so I think it high time we found a Government which looks after the boys or maybe a Coupe is called for.......

Cut backs?,I see that the office workers at the MOD are suffering from stress!,and the Dept has organised special rooms equiped with easy chairs and soft music for the poor dears to relax in comfort.Stress those B'stards dont know what stress is.Suddenly I have this yearning to take off up to the 'Big Smoke' and give those B'stards real stress.

Apparently a senior Royal Marines officer said that the MOD statement that Arctic rations were sufficient for the men's needs was totally untrue!! So I suppose there is some truth in the story carried by the Mail on Sunday.

I'm in the TA and when we go on excercise in this country, we can't get normal rations! It's always arctic ratpacks.

Your damn right, only very rarely is there chocolate that hasn't sailed past it's useby date by a number of years.
Rabby, what do you think of those little tins of catfood they now include? If i wasn't so hungry, tierd, cold.... oh, and wet, then i'd proberbly bin it. At least the hot chocolate is nice!
And what happened to the chocolate and raisin and the other varieties they used to have ...?

Dude the only reason for the cat food is so that you have something to eat the dog biscuits with (biscuits brown and fruit). I'll tell you something though, the lancashire hotpot and rice pudding is fantastic! I've resorted to bringing my own beautiful silky galaxy chocolate now.

So, who`s got the keys to the armoury?

rabby you dont kow how right you are about the dog biscuits. They are infact produced by a company who also produces dog biscuits as they are cheap and can get the reqired(and apparently tasty) vitamins in. I aways liked the fruit biscuits thou

Allright – I’ll do it again . . . .

Next time you’re making a brew up try this one :-

You takes :-

1 lb sugar ( white or brown )
1/4 pint milk ( you remember a gill ?)
½ to 1 teaspoon peppermint essence or a few drops of peppermint oil.

Dissolve the sugar in the milk in a pan over low heat -
( over here that’s all you get ).
Bring to the boil, stirring constantly and cook until a little of the mixture dropped into cold water forms a soft ball between finger and thumb.
( I know – but do it anyway ).

Remove from the heat, beat the mixture for 2 minutes then return to the heat and boil again until a little of the mixture when tested forms a firm ball….
( yes, samey same ).

Remove from heat, add the flavouring and stir until thick
( the contents that is – not you like ).

Pour into an oiled, shallow tin and mark into bars. Cut when cold

I just tried to create this mint cake. Instead i used caster sugar (stupid idea mk 1) then i heated on a high heat(stupid idea mk2). The thing over boiled and turned into foam while i left it for 5 seconds. After cleaning up the 2 tone white liquid(striking resemblence to something else) i put the wall paper paste looking mixture into a celebrations tin. Ill let you know how it tastes. Hopefully it isnt that made

Oh yes - just like old times - don't turn your back .....

The trick is boiling it for long enough - low heat boil at the end - and stir . .


Cronkilla - good job it wasn't fifty liters of best brew in a laarge pan......
Sticky stuff that - can end up with an expensive beer - one new oven...

As far as I know the main body only arrived for Arctic training at the end of last week (22/24 - 01).
They are living in a nearly brand new Barracks whose main galley was updated about three years ago (I live nearby) so they won't exactly be on Arctic rations yet will they ?
