No, sorry mate i did mine this weekend. course no109.

really good. Made me realise just how fit you have to be for the paras. A real eye opener, even though none of the stuff we did was that hard compared to basic training at Catterick.

Good luck anyway fella.

James,

Were you on a POC or a regular insight course?

Let's have a full account anyway mate. We get lots of PRMC reports not many from the paras!.

Did go over the site before but the reread was well worth it!
log race- I hope that the carrying of washing machines, fridges and large tv's will help! oww they hurt! after a long distance!
Brains wise for PO's watch news/news night read inde’ or guardian several days a week. (read the Economist every week as it contains the most select and salient points of the weekly news and builds on them!)
Well trying to prep for the tests?
Is there assault course + command task + phys what do I expect?
P.S full diary after for everyone!

Para insight course- the truth!

I went on the course back in september, here's my account and views on it.

Having just been on a TA 2 week recruit course at ATR Pirbright the week before, i thought a weekend with the paras was going to be hell! As it turned out it was exactly the opposite! They never shouted once, in fact they were nice guys. Although the nice guy approach must help them recruit a lot of people, it is not a true reflection of what you will be treated like when you arrive at the para depot.

The phys isnt too hard- 1.5 mile best effort, most amount of push ups, pull ups and sit ups in 2 mins, a bleep test, and a fricken hard assualt course that will have you blowing out your arse! The phys part of the insight course is not a competition! it is just to give you an INSIGHT of what you need to be capable of when you want to join the paras.
You will also be shown weapons, a parachute, and be given command tasks to do. We also got do firing manouveres with paintball guns.

Overall a good weekend!

Sorry no reply in a while lads,

The weekend Insight course i did was alot harder physically than i was expecting but i fullfilled the role of the "grey man" getting all the recomended times in the 1.5 mile BFT and the gym tests (sit-ups, push-ups and pull ups). The hardest event for me was the Assault course. Firstly as a warm up, we had a beasting session for 5-10 minutes with the PTI. We then did the 500m long assault course as a team event (by which time you are nackered). They then put you up against some one and you have to race them. This was all on saturday apart from the gym tests which we did on Sunday at 7am in the 7Para RHA gym!

I dont want to spoil all their surprises but you do have to work hard and show them what you are made of and show determination that you want to be a paratrooper. They do however emphasise how hard p-company is and that less than 40% of people who attempt p-coy pass. They show you a video of it and i think the hardest events are the Steeplechase and the Log run.

We stayed at Cavalry baracks in Colchester and the accomodation was pretty good (oh and you get issued Para helmets :D ). We ate at the 2Para scoff house coz they are in Iraq so it was quiet. The staff also said that they cant make us do loads of push ups and get us up in the middle of the night for stress positions coz some "little wet c**t" complained to his mum who complained to the army.

Anyway, its a real eye opener for how fit you have to be for the Paras but it has made me more determined than i was. Oh and they make you actually scared of Catterick coz aparently they beast the sh*t out of Paras.

Enjoy 8)

James

This may seem like a silly question, but what's the difference between para style helmets and normal helmets???
