Tony Moriarty (former Paratrooper)

this article was in last weeks Sunday mail.
Mr Tony Moriarty, a Veteran Paratrooper finally lost his patience with the gang of yobs who had terrorised his family for four years. They had thrown fireworks and eggs at his home, set the front door alight, broken windows, slashed his car tyres, pushed metal poles through his letter box, threatened him with a broken bottle and repeatedly banged on his door in the early hours. But after restraining one of his teenage tormentors in a neck hold after calling the police- causing grazes to the youths face-the 63 year old has been warned HE faces prosecution under the Public Order Act.

"I reached the end of my patience. I used the minimum of force and now I could be the one in court. It is scandalous," he said.

Mr Moriarty, who lives with his wife Carole and 2 of their 5 children in Aldershot, was even threatened with CS Gas Spray when they arrived.

Mr Moriarty was commended for discipline and self control in some of the worlds toughest areas. He made national newspaper headlines in 1969 for his leading role in quelling what became a full-scale riot outside a Government Building on the Caribean island of Anguilla.
Is this what our Country`s finally coming too? Would it be wise for us as individuals to e-mail mr Blunkett, and support this guy? i personally think so, what about the forum?

Well here's a chance for our judiciary to make the step-change in sentencing we need. Lock up the yobs and award Tony Moriarty punitive damages for distress, criminal damage to his home, etc...

Wasn't this guy just making a citizen's arrest. The yob was guilty of an arrestable offence [wasn't he] and he made an arrest using only'necessary force'.

Come on you Bobbies out there, what's the real score on this?

I agree with you on this one. Read the article and thought "Typical of the sodding country!"

PC and liberalism is getting past a kin joke! When I was a sprog was once locked up in a cell for 2 hours to teach me a lesson. Then the copper belted me round the lughole and walked me to my Grandparents house where me dad then belted me again. It worked!

What a load of Cobblers! I support Tony Moriarty and don't blame him for his actions. Surely he can't get done for it though, seen as they have been winding him up for years.

its madness!!
But im sick of writing to my MP about these things, nothing gets done. And the police by me dont have the power to do anything, when will the government give the police the powers they need to make these streets safe?

I don't want to be overly critical of our newspapers, but as one of my favourite TV programmes is, 'Have I got News For You', how could he have quelled something that became a full-scale riot?!

Apart from that, I fully support his right to 'ice' anyone who steps through his garden gate with malicious intent.

In 1985 I had to attend the Sheriff's Court in Dundee when one of my guys was up for assaulting 3 yobs who attacked his uncle in similar circumstance to Tony Moriarty. His uncle was an ex-Dundee Policeman OAP. The yobs had filed assault charges.
The Sheriff addressed the uncle by his Christian name when he gave evidence, (they were old friends!), and then commended my guy on his public spirit, service to his country, loyalty to his uncle and immaculate appearance!
He then told the yobs if they ever wasted his time again he would do them for contempt.
All in all, a good days work!

Just think how the old age pensioners feel.
My father of 83 fought in the desert in WW11 He is fed up of yobs.

He had a drugee living next to him who kept parking in my fathers disabled space.
The drugees car was untaxed and looked like it wouldnt pass an M.O.T.
My father ask him if he could move his car because he could not walk very far.

The druggee told him to F--- off.
My father at 83 has just realised he is to old to do anything.
He said to me "if i was ten years younger i would have wolloped him"
He was featherweight boxing champion when he was in the Army.

Before i found all this out my sister, who is a police officer, had a word with the drugee.
He was still being offensive.
O.K. she told him, have it your way.
Two days later he was raided and taken away.
Apparently he was on bail, now hes back in nick.
It turned out he had three cars and a van parked outside,he was claiming dole and selling drugs.
Theres a lot of tossers out there that have no respect for the elderly.
What ever happened to respect and obeying the law.
Are we suprised when people take the law into their own hands.
I think the reason for this lack of respect because these tossers have been raised by tossers.

What about Tony Martin who shot that gippo ,he got sent to jail

Just saw this thread and had to comment, though I think Bootneck said it best:
Is this what our Country`s finally coming too?
This kind of thing is driving me mad. What kind of world do politicians live in? How can this man possibly be charged? He should be commended for:

1. Standing up to the yobs
2. Putting up with the situation for 5 years

It just makes me feel like banging my head against a wall :banghead:

There is nothing wrong with giving people a thump when they deserve it - it is the only way some people learn. My dad smacked me when I was young, it never did me any harm.

I dread to think what the country will be like in 10 years time if this sort of thing is allowed to continue.

I broke the ankle and busted the nose, blacked the eye and ruptured the eardrum of a drug crazed maniac who tore a store up and assaulted several patrons and employees over the weekend. I got hand shakes from the people in the store and even the police and fireman, and told to disappear. I guess you can get into trouble for using general citizen authority to protect your weaker fellow citizens, but our police here are mostly ex-military and over worked by these types of idiots.

If I ever had to stand in a kangaroo court over something like that I'd ask the court if their existing laws that persecute the good semaritian are the reason the general population is nothing but a mob of maniacs.
If I got in trouble over it, after I did my time, I'd leave the country.

That paratrooper deserves to be knighted in my opinion.
