is eczama really a problem ??

Post by Gary_amsterdam »

I have finally gotten to N-ireland, filled in all the application forms, and i now have to go back on the 9'th for my BARB test + interview. I put ' naval gunfire observer' down as my first choice , and infantry man as second choice.

Only then i read that active eczama stops you from getting into the armed forces :S. The eczama i have is hardly anything, I have some on the back of my legs (back of knees) it just gets a bit red sometimes, but it has never affected my sporting abilitys.

I was advised by someone to cut out all dairy products, wich i have done and i have been noticing a big difference since, but I just can't imagine being refused for this :(.

Does anyone know if they judge each person individually or if they just say 'f@#k off' to everyone with any type of eczama however bad/not so bad it is?

Becouse I am 100% sure that it would not affect my soldering abilities, it will probably (I hope) be cleared up by the time i go for my medical, but then my GP has records of me having it since i was 8 wich will not look good. #

ARHGHGHH IM GOING CRAZY :(

Not a problem for me, I've had it for years (pain in the arse) and occasionally my elbows go a bit red and itchy and I said that to the medical guy and he said it wasn't a problem. Don't worry, it isn't a problem!

No,That's piles Rabby :D I think the lad is talking about eczema!

Gary, I think the key words are 'It doesn't affect my sporting abilities'. If it doesn't affect you normally then I can't see it being a problem. Some of the posters on this thread have it and it never stopped them so it shouldn't stop you.

best of luck

I wouldn't mention it if I were you mate. It's not a big issue but if they want to be arsey about they can be so just leave it alone.

If it doesn't cause you any problems then no one will ever know otherwise. I wouldn't advise that if it was a condition that may make you a liability to your oppo's but eczema isn't going to stop you doing your job.

What if they ring my GP and find out that I have had a history of eczema, and that I ticked the 'no' box in on the medical form.

Surely that won't look good :-?
