Hiya, i am reading a book on the Royal marine Commando's and they claim that they are more elite and better trained than the SAS (who i regard as the best in the world), what does everyone else have to say about it? pls reply lots

well i suppose if the SAS and the royal marines were to have a big fight the marines would almost certainly win. because to the best of my knowledge there are only 200 men in the SAS. but individually i'd say the SAS are better trained. i mean there all really hard

Could you copy/quote the words from the book where it actually says that?

Who wrote the book, and what is it's title.

As you will have worked out by now, I can't believe 'they' would make such a statement.

Well you say that rotary, but the Scandinavian Air Service aren't well practiced in the dark art of in flight duty free; the Royal Marines on the other hand are undoubtedly more than capable of acquiring large quanties of alcohol and selling it to you with only 150% profit, before knocking up a nice curry to pass the time .

These pointless dicussions really get on my tits, the sas the sbs the para pathfinders etc etc etc all do different jobs.
People for these jobs are selected to see if they are suitable for that job and the selection levels vary. I have yet to meet a good bootneck who would not make a good para, but if he was afraid flying (for the sake of argument) it would be a good idea to weed him out at an early stage.
So to say one person is harder because of the colour of his beret,specialist badges etc. is a load of crap.
However this is not to decry the healthy rivalry that surfaces after a couple of wets, this helps the would be medics the next morning no end.

You just confirmed what I suspected, and what you wrote wasn't in the book! This is what starts the daft arguments that we all despair of so much. Let's keep to the facts.

In your 2nd post you quoted from the book a couple of paragraphs that I thought were there to prove your point. Nowhere in those quotes from the book does it state that the Royal Marines claim that they are more elite and better trained than the SAS. That may be your interpretation of what was written, but that doesn't make it fact.

I've had a copy of the book since 1988, when you were about one year old. Just give me the page number.
