Material possessions
I have a detached house; a house full of nice gear and a car. Is there any point in hanging on to this gear while on your basic training or as soon as you've earned your green beret?
Just post the address, the lads will look after it for you.
Difficult to say, the car will be useful, especially if trapping becomes an issue. The house less so as it's not close enough for living off camp once in a unit, could provide rental income though.

You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

I have looked into renting out my property and it is not financially viable. As I am a techno sort of guy and I like the latest and greatest, so I will probably sell all my stuff too. I believe that you cannot keep your car on base while on the 30 week training, is this true? If this is the case, then I might as well sell the car too!
Argh, I too am in the process of selling my prized possessions!
'Tis tragic ... but, it ain't really viable to keep 'em once in the Forces I reckon. I have a Subaru Impreza at the moment, and whilst it's a fantasic car and I love it etc etc, even the running costs wouldn't be affordable on a soliders pay (never mind the repayments on the car itself)!

There's got to be a major argument for selling your pad whilst the market is at, or pretty near, it's peak. As long as you can bank the money and keep your grubbies off it! Do you have the discipline?? Then you can buy when the market falls. Might make a substantial profit! The bubble has got to burst at some point.
Mind you, don't listen to me. Talk to an IFA.
Stash your good gear. You'll only want to replace it later and it's gonna cost more.
