Two 25lb weights and one 10lb.
Or a stack of books that weighs 60lbs.
If you go for the weights I'd think wrapping them in a sweater or something to fill up the rest of the rucksack would be a good idea.

PFC Logan: beware when beginning bergen training.
I would advise you to obtain Adrian Weale's Fighting Fit book. It is geared towards SF selection but is also applicable for other training. It is a day by day account of how to train with the bergen and also includes all aspects of bergen training, ie what to include in bergen, weights, distances and times.
Never use dead weight objects such as sand, books or stones/bricks as they fall unequally in the bergen and produce beautiful scars, blisters, shagged bergen, crap balance and spine pains (ouch)

. Instead use items that could be of possible use like food, water, bivy sack, even a tent...
Have fun...

Fill your bergen with 2litre bottles of water, (weigh one and then multiply until you reach desired weight)... I assume you arent running with weight? that is a fast track to injury, save that for the 2miler (etc) when you have to do it....
Put an unfurled dos bag at the bottom to cushion your lower back.
Harry is correct, that signature isnt really on! Step aerobics simply won't be enough....

I remember when an A41 and two spare batteries, all your kit, ammo, added to two weeks food and water still enabled us to carry a yank or pongo as hand baggage.

Don't forget the wife that killed the SF husband... Supposedly she did it for the insurance money.
The story I heard about at least two of the murders is they were "acts of passion." The husband found out the wife had been getting around while he was gone or some such.

Forget the rucksack and all the other crap. I know it may be difficult in Canada, 'cos most of the country is still experiencing an ice-age, but if you can get to a beach with really good dunes just run up and down them until you drop, then keep going. It has numerous aerobic benefits, and if done in bare feet enables rough skin to be worn away prior to waxing!

There is no more draining experience than running on soft sand, therefore requiring even greater effort.
Shit, just realised he's a Septic. Cancel my last, just go ahead and invade Iraq! Psst it's a secret.

I've used dry-ish dirt in the past, and it did compress into a marginally uncomfortable lump at the bottom, but it seems to be one of the easier things to use. I tried bricks but they started wearing away the material making a nice big hole (luckily it belonged to my old air cadet unit, and I gave it back without anyone noticing the terrible stitching

), I tried books but they weren't nearly heavy enough, and with a few other "objects" they seem to have a habit of settling at the back so they stick into you, most annoying

All I can say is, unless you a mean Pileck like me, then don't go for the extreme in the first time. Put a small Pillot in your rucksack and then put the weights in it helps to stabilize them while running or walking I assure you!!! DO NOT RUN WITH 60 lbs, I have been training with 90 lbs rucksack plus a 20lbs log(Not recommended) I do feel very proud of myself for doing so! I am 17 but am determined to Join the regiment. Also, if you want to join do you have a specialist skill which the regiment has very little or almost none of?? Languages maybe, it helps when going for selection I think! Try not to run with 60lbs, is it really bad for your trapezius muscles! Start from about 30 lbs, then work your way up marching about twice to thrice a week. I Used Vietnam war flak jacket which weighed 22kg tried to jog with it and got me real fit, because it had the weight spred all ovet the torso. If you can Buy a flak and run with it unde your jacket. All the best mate!
