Hello everyone. First time posting on this board - hopefully I can get some feedback on my questions. I will be attending the Royal Navy Admiralty Interview Board this coming June. The prepatory package I have received describes the process in detail, but I still have several queries:

First is with regard to the psychometric testing that is done. Is anyone on this board aware of any books that could be used to prepare for the above tests?

My second question is to do with the "team exercises." Obviously the evaluators are looking at leadership and teamwork abilities, and a lack of either will result in a lower grade. Are there any other factors that would cause one to gain or lose marks in this test?

My final question is about the discussion exercise. When devising a plan to deal with the mock crisis situation during this exercise, is it more important to "complete the mission" or "ensure the safety of the other team members" or both? Are there any other factors that would cause one to gain or lose marks in this test?

The team exercise is a very simple activity:
1. Say your bit and shut up unless someone wants to hear more. No irish parliament.
3. If someone tells you to do something that you can do, do it.
4. If someone tells you to do something that you dont think you can do, suggest an alternative. If they still insist try as hard as you can to do it.
5. If its your idea make it work by being a team player.
6. If its someone elses idea make it work by being a team player.
7. If its falling apart help with a few quiet suggestions (yes someone is specifically watching and listening for them).
8. Each task can be completed, but not achieving it isnt a fail.

The discussion exercise is even simpler
1. Prioritise, prioritise, prioritise
2. If you dont think it will work say so during the syndicate discussion phase.
3. Once a plan has been formulated, stick to it.
4. If you get asked a sticky question fend it off by passing it to the bright spark who thought of it
5. Not every situation has an answer especially when you get given the - oh I forgot to tell you - info
6. Agree, agree, agree

Get these 2 exercises right and forget the Andrew, Go for Green.

The Andrew like you to get a consistent average across the board with a higher entry mark.

Finally, To make sure you pass AIB:

if Daddy was an Admiral get him to buy the Commodore a few 'pinks';


if Daddy was a bootneck get him to shaft the PSO

I must have been a late sanitiser. I originally walked in to join the Andrew. Having replied "green", when asked what colour grass was; and after standing b*ll*cky for 20 mins, prior to medical. I was grabbed by a CSgt who had obviously lunched well and asked "had I ever thought about the RM".
So I couldnt join your errr election for fear of bias....

There is no reason on earth to want to join up now, what with a stale and demorolised workforce such as the RN. There are plenty more opportnities outside the RN thesedays.
At one time the cream of British youth as accepted for the RN with only 1 in 40 making selection and now its 1 in 6 and the standards are so low etc Get a proper job and a career where you will be treated like an adult and gain just reward for your trouble.
