Raf Regiment - Applying for commission

Hey, I was just wondering does anyone know the minimum ammount of time it takes as a Gunner to apply for a commission to become a Rgt Officer?
I know its 4 years to apply for Corporal, but I haven't heard anything on applying for a commission. Is there even a minimum time?
Someone told me you can apply after 1 or two years, is that true?

You apply to be Cpl? I always thought you get promoted when your CO and/or fellow officers feel your ready..

No, i know a guy in the Regiment who was an SAC and he filled in all his own papers and entered himself for the F2 course for corporal, and passed.

Correct. Or at least that's how it always was i.e. you had to be proposed by NCOs first then that proposal was put forward to the adjutant. You didn't decide yourself to become a Cpl & just fill in paperwork.

Last time I looked they weren't unionised, so methinks the chain of command might have something to say about it!

Well either way, back to the original post, does anyone know the minimum time to apply for a commission or is there a minimum time?

You have to complete at least one tour before you can apply for either a commission or a change of trade. That's about 2 yrs for us, not sure about the regt. However, you'd probably be more likely to pass OASC if you got a bit more time in and got promoted a couple of times.

You'd have to apply for the JROC course when you felt prepared enough. Its extremely hard work. The usual trend is that blokes apply for it as senior SAC's or corprals. (EDIT) Usually all keen'ness and morale is sapped away by this point!
Give the TG course a bash first, then if your successful get through being a sprog on a squadron and shit jobs!
Dont be detered by my post though, i served 4 years on QCS and had a blast, if it wasn't the best thing i had ever done it was SHIT! Welcome to the world of "a monking gunner"
