It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that a British soldier from the Queens Royal Lancers Regiment has been killed in Afghanistan today, 21 April 2008.
The incident happened this morning at approximately 0900hrs, when a suspected minestrike hit a vehicle providing security to a resupply convoy on the return to Camp Bastion. The incident happened as they were travelling between Gareshk and Camp Bastion.
The soldier was evacuated to the medical facility at Camp Bastion, but tragically was declared dead on arrival. A second soldier was injured in the blast and is receiving treatment at Camp Bastion.
The soldier’s next of kin have been informed and have requested a period of grace before further details are released.
