Hi, I am from South Africa and would like to know if there is any residency requirements for joining the Royals, it says nothing about residency when joining as a marine but says 5 years for an officer. There is not one for the Army infantry so should there be one for the Marines.
Thanks

The security checks could be a bitch, in my case, I'm just from Ireland, but it could be up to a year just from here.....depending on civil servent efficency

In addition, whether or not you are of UK origin, you should normally have resided in the UK for a minimum of three years immediately prior to making an application. In certain circumstances, particularly when an applicant is of UK origin, or the country of residence is one where security checks can be carried out, a shorter period of residence may be accepted.

Thats the official line on the RN website, but I'm aware of several people joinging the RN/RM with what I thought was a shorter period of recidency than that, but I'm not sure of their particular cicumstances.
