Stupid question number 2.....(You won't believe this one!!)

I don't want to end up doing all my daughter's research for her (I just want to make sure I get the right answer to the right question). Most quiestions can be sorted with a little look through the websites. This one's a bit more obscure.

She's due to have her PJFT and medical at the end of the month and, subject to being given the green light, she'll enter training at Halton. I also realise that the majority of posters on this site are XY chromosome types and probably not qualified to answer this dumbass question, but I'll give it a shot anyway..

OK Stupid question time.... Hair! (Yeah that's right, hair) How much of it and where to get some advice on best approach when you're going through training?

For blokes it's easy - "Get it cut and get it cut short" (not quite down to the bone, as I understand they let you get away with a little more attached to your scalp these days)

But WOMEN?? I'm trying to persuade her that a good approach is to have it shortish style so it's easier to sort after PT etc. giving you more time on your studies/kit prep. Having a hard time getting this across to her though. (She's kind of attached)

When I was in the army the WRACS with long hair seemed to be able to sweep it up, stick a few pins in and (somehow) form in into a tight knot/bun. Do girls get TAUGHT this in training :-? :-? :-? Not able to ask her mum for advice so probably someone (female) who knows what the score is....

(Told you you wouldn't believe it....)

I cant really give you a definite answer, but on the prtc, the females all seemed to have shoulder length hair, some even longer. They said that they will be required to bring something to tie it up with.

I've managed to keep my hair long with no dramas! The first day of basic training, before they even get changed into the oh-so-attactive green growbags, her female corporal will demonstrate on one of the cadets.
She will need to have with her - covered bands (not scrunchies!), bun nets (available only from Boots as far as I can tell...) and kirby grips. They should all be as close to her hair colour as possible.
She should be able to get her hair in a bun with one band, one net, and 2 grips, although if she's got layers like I do she'll probably find she has to put a couple more grips in random places to keep her hair off her face!
It is a nightmare when you need to wear your helmet, as it pushes your bun right down at the back of your head and you quite often lose your net and grips, so I used to keep spares in my pockets!

It could well be easier to get it cut off, but joining the military and going through basic training I kinda felt like I looked like a bloke most of the time, so keeping my hair long was the only way to feel feminine at the end of the working day! Expect her to start wearing a bit more pink than usual for a few weeks too...

Hope that helps!

Thanks for that Hyper. I'll tell her to get her backside down to Boots then!

And before anyone asks what happened to 'stupid question number 1?'........... It was too stupid to post

Cheers, Dave  Always wondered how you got away with it for so long :-?
It is a great look early morning, for sure. And the old cam net cravat hides the Adam`s apple as you know, but once the five o-clock shadow kicks in mate..... :-?
I mean, how much cam cream can one bloke use, ffs :-?

I had shoulder length hair on arrival at Halton err i only had male instructors so never got shown how to do our hair by a female instructor but we did get the wings and strings chat lol. All i did was put hair in a low pony secure it with one band then wind round into bun secure with another band then hair net then another band i never had any hair dramas her hair can be ne length as long as it is off the collar of her no1 uniform. I went through training with girls with short hair and its not easier after pt (physical training) cause u literally get 5 mins to shower and get back in ur kit so being able to tie hair up is easier by far. Hope this helps and Halton is a good crack she will love it !!!
