It says that soldiers in 2 and 3 Para have to serve atleast 2 years before they can apply for 1 Para, which is not the case. I knew someone who went to 1 Para after being in 3 Para less than 6 months.

Some lads are going to 1 Para straight from basic training now too.

Just an opinion of a civie, but maybe it's to get it up to strength then when thats stabilised, bring in some form of "selection/assesment period", the Aussies did that with their Commando Battalion back in the 90's.

Yea it seemed first they could go when 1 Para became part of the SFSG, then they couldn't, then a select few could. At least thats what seemed to happen while I was at Depot before being RTU'd to civvie street. I heard most of the people who transfered were new blokes, I guess it's like James was saying about how the blokes have their family and friends in Colly now and dont fancy the move.

Cheers

When I was with 1 Para last year I met a couple lads who had come straight in from AFD. Mind you like every one there the training is extensive and continuous

Noob question, but is it true you only get to go to the SFSG for a while (year or 2) then back to your original unit?

What sort of skills do the SFSG have that the other battalions don't? Do they have to go through extra training?

Of course not, silly
Simply wanting to volunteer for SFSG is more than enough.
It`s dead easy to get in

Yeh Priests find it quite easy to get into the boy scouts.
