Not taking the piss at all here, so any Digs reading this don`t chew my head off.
OZ has troops in Iraq who seem to be there only so the Howard Govt can say they are amongst Elmer`s friends, sending their Best into harm`s way. They bimble around the Green Zone and don`t do much else. Down here they big this up to a level equal to, say, Britain`s contribution. Farcical in the extreme.
In the Gan the OZ contingent dont do much either, it seems to me. Except last week a trooper was killed by an IED and that really shook public opinion down here.
The exception being Australia`s SAS, they do get involved.
Well, through the network, I`ve just heard that an OZ SAS soldier has been killed today in an operation which is still ongoing. Details have not been released here yet but by tomorrow it will be out there.
OZ SAS is based here in Perth and we know several of the Reg lads, mainly because they are former RMs.
Someone in Perth is getting the worst news possible tonight.
Spare a thought for them.

Some of us successful people in Australian society just happen to vote for John Howard and think he is the best Prime Minister Australia ever had.
In so doing, the more aware in the community also agree that it is necessary to send our military to both Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the allied committment to fight Islamic terrorism.
Some of us here in Australia also think that our military are doing a very fine job over there too.
So Whinging Perth Pom, you are requested to keep your mouth shut about such matters that you know nothing about. You position as Moderator here does not give you the right to stuff your left wing political views down others throats.
The Jolly Swagman,
Perth.

Swaggles me boy, this isn't a political throw around, it's a moment of thought for the fallen Aussies.
If you're going to try turn it into one, than foxtrots favourite saying comes to mind, foxtrot oscar.

Your above quoted post, especially the Foxtrot Oscar bit, should be addressed to Moderator Hackedoff and not to The Swagman.
Rest in Peace Sergeant Locke

I`m about as left wing as Attila the Hun mate and I don`t agree with the UK contingent being in Iraq, never mind the OZ contingent. Iraq was not invaded for any reasons to do with islamic terrorism. That`s a subject we both know something about. I`ve just come back from Bali.
Rest Easy Mat,
We Will Remember Them.

A moment of thought for fallen Aussies is it Illustrious?
I was just thinking that the quote below by the moderator should go a long way to making any Australian war dead's family, friends and army mates feel a lot better knowing that our guys aren't achieving anything over there, nor are they in harm's way like the British army contingent.

Taliban target Australian troops: report
Saturday Oct 27 06:17 AEST
Taliban fighters in Afghanistan are reportedly targeting Australian troops, with the elite Special Air Service (SAS) soldiers the prize target.
SAS troops have revealed they have come under increased attack by the Taliban's veteran mountain fighters a day after SAS Sergeant Matthew Locke was killed in Afghanistan, News Limited newspapers report.
The Taliban were hunting SAS troops, an SAS source told News Limited.
"They (Taliban) have been wanting to kill Australians for a long time and they will keep at it - the bastards," the source, who cannot be named, told News Ltd.
Three Australians - Matthew Locke, Trooper David Pearce and Sgt Andrew Russell - have been killed in action and another 27 have been seriously wounded since the Afghanistan campaign began in late 2001.
