Did anyone else watch this series? It's been on the BBC for the past three weeks and was really good. Last night's episode covered the actual invasion and was the best of the 3 programmes.

They had some veterans from the Paras and the Marines on describing what the fighting was like, they pulled no punches and were very frank about what happened I found it very informative and it really gave a good insight into what it was like and the sort of things they had to do.

What did anyone else think of it?

Also there is a programme about the French war in Algeria coming on soon which should also be quite good.

I did watch it, but being a BBC programme things are never entirely impartial. There was a similar programme on the History channel a few months ago.

It was the personal accounts of the guys who were there which I found so intresting. Although I really didn't see the point of having Michael Parkinson on it as he didn't seem to offer anything of value to the programme.

It's not often you get to hear real accounts of battles and that's the first time I've ever seen a programme on Suez where the soldiers who fought there gave their personal accounts. I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for all those who were involved even more so now after hearing 1st hand what they went through it brings the realities home much more so than reading about it in books.

I watched it, what I did notice is that some parachutes were different colours to others, officers maybe?.
Anyone know why?.

Going grey, I didn't see it but I would imagine its was different types of loads. Sigs, heavy weapons etc were always marked in case the carrier was injured, you wouldn't want to be without the above.

GoingGrey some of the parachutes were white and some khaki, it was a sort of trail to see what chutes were least visible at different times of the day and night. The chutes being used in those days were a left over from WW2
