Hi - hoping someone maybe able to shed some light. have just returned from selection & failed the medical - excema - which is not open nor has any medication been used in 12 years (i am 16 now). I have been told by the SMO that I will have to be symptom free for 3 years before reapplying. I have no symptoms as such, just thinned skin to the insides of my elbows where I sometimes (maybe twice a year) have a minor flare up lasting usually no more than 48 hours. Had I not been completely honest on my application form then I may have passed.
Since my everyday life & fitness are not in any way compromised, do I have any grounds for appeal? Local Army Careers office have said that I maybe sent to a specialist (2-8 weeks) for further opinion. So who is correct - have i failed never to be considered agiain or is the specialist my lifeline? Happy to visit a specialist privately for report if this is what is needed.
Do I have any further grounds for appeal? 12 years of waiting & wanting shattered (possibly) for a bit of itchy skin (damn it).

Any help or advice would be much appreciated & quickly as I relly do not want to go to college!

I have psoriasis which is like excema, still have it on my elbows, head and knees. Its a little bit different to excema though, isnt excema thin and blistering skin? and psoriasis is when your body is producing to much skin.

Just sent my medical forms off the other week, waiting on a reply from the AFCO, hope this doesnt effect my application but after reading your post im not so sure....

The problem is that you can spend a great deal of time living rough in the open under a wide range of conditions. When you are in the desert or jungles and you are sweating like mad these conditions can easily flare up and then you have to be sent back to the UK and basically you are little use to them. Sorry to sound harsh but that is the way it goes.

Dont look hopefull for me then Tab does it...? since i still have the damn thing.

3 months ago I got a rash between my legs after walking 3 miles in my chest waders I though it was a sweat rash (for non fishers, big wellies) I was going abroad for 10 days so I went to get sorted by the doc.
He gave me some cream and it sorted it, for a while.
To cut a long story short I have psoriasis.
It came back and the doc who is a skin specalist said it was hireditary and uncurable. He also said not to bother with any old wives remidies.
He said I was lucky it had come out so late in life as it can come out in your teens and you have it forever.
I have been in some hot and smellie places in my time and I dread to think what would have happend if it had come on in some them.
What I'm really saying is get it checked out before you commit yourself to military life. You don't know whats round the corner.

hello mate sorry to hear about your story it took me 3 times to pass the army medical i did not give in to these knock backs, on your med form do not tell them everthing ,every one has some thing to hide, trust is a must is a load of shi.... bluff your way though, i would see the army doctor for a further test, do not give up, my lad failed the medical on a heart murmer
but on the second test he was given the all clear and is now serving with the gren guards,so matie keep the peker up and go for it ,all the best ex 3li

I have mild excema,
was worse when i was younger,
and gets weaker every year,
you can only really tell for a couple of weeks a year,
problem is it's on my hands so wouldn't be easy to cover up,
think it would still be possible to join in about 3 years?
