Best Britain Beaches... if any?

Quick question: What is your best Britain beach?
Planning a whole family day out to a beach - so far its narrowed the criteria to either Southend or Margate. I don't know much about Southend but I just can't help feeling that it will be filled with the chav-elements down there burning rubber with the suped-up £100 Novas; and the last time I was in Margate was a mid-week work visit two years ago, one of locals was telling me that they were flooded with eastern europeans and they've run down the area and the beach. All I recall was the town being quiet and beach being empty - but that was what we were looking for at that time of night!

Anyway, this time a visit in called for in August with kids and grandparents in tow - any ideas?

I know its a little out of the way, but Tregantle Beach in Whitsand Bay, not far from Torpoint, Cornwall is magnificent. I was there last June, water was warm.

Tregantle`s good, Porthcurno`s better
Best of all is Whipsiddery just N of Newquay
Water`s cold, often contains feminine hygene and male contraceptive products and has a curious brown hue, mind
Down here, life really is a beach

As long as you are carefull, you can have a great day out. Up north we have sea snakes that are lethal, Box Jellys and Irakanji Jellys are so toxic that most victims die before they can get to hospital, which is a blessed relief because the sting from either creature is so painfull that even massive doses of morphine have no effect. Then there`s the stone fish, tread on one and if you last twenty minutes you`ve done well. Cone shells which shoot poisonous darts, blue ringed octopus, poisonous sting-rays etc etc Off our South, East and West coasts there are all manner of sharks waiting for a feed but none compare with Mr White of course. Good news is there are no sharks off our Northern coasts
The crocs ate `em all

West Kirby in the Wirral!!!
but thinking about it, if youd rather not have the local chav populace id think id give it a miss, its not that bad but the ones there can be a tad on the bad side.

Best beach I ever saw, Kuredu Resort,Lahvianni Atol, Maldives 99, young Hackedoff was conceived on this beach

Quite literally mate
Missus Aitch pisses the Wet Tee Shirt Comp
Fave beach, local to Perth on a very busy day. Usually there`s no farquar here
Great beach for young kids, warm water no swell and sheltered whatever time of year.

See? No farquar here

Here`s me local beach, ten minutes away. great snorkelling on the reef which you can see as the waves breaking over it. Inside the reef it`s very calm. Usually.
And here`s what a decent break looks like

Sarfend? Bleedin Sarfend

You`re aving a gee rarffe, aincha

Harry - I don't get like this very often, but after that first piccy, I'll admit to being
frigging JEALOUS
That said - I'm hoping that the odd but glorious weather we've been having and the big LCD tv I'm about to get will make Southend look the same in my eyes

Well, at least I won't get stung, bitten or die!
not if I cross any chavs anyway

Too right mate

but the water is cold, they`ve killed all the fish and the place is full of Cypriots ffs
Aphrodite`s bath my bottom, it`s a muddy old stream
And what`s the name of that old sheep dish, chewy as fcuk, tastes like shite, that they flog to the tourists as the national dish?
Kon Tiki or summat
Cleftiki? Cleft pallate? Who cares, it sucks
Must admit though, Cyp doesn`t have anywhere near the number of shark attacks that we have.
Wimps

what`s wrong with you ffs
Little secret here, more people are killed worldwide, by falling coco nuts than sharks and in OZ, more people die from anaphylactic shock brought on by bee stings.

I`m aware of Mr White but not alarmed. I keep out of the water in situations where he might think I`m a food item. Dawn, dusk, "sharks r us" food stations etc. Up to now it`s worked
You have better oranges though, Jenny

and we liked Paphos, the Akimos and skiing the Troudos in early Jan.
Not enough to live there, mind

Those photos are from the N.side, beaches are vacant of anyone. Wildlife is great, you can see the turtles coming up on the beaches to lay eggs also.
Always said the beaches on the N.side are better than the Greek-Cyp side!

Sorry to go a little bit off topic here,
JoJo, I notice that you are in Nicosia in Cyprus. Now I am a liverpool fan and the rumour is that the Liverpool vs Maccabi Haifa champions league qualifying tie is going to be held there. Whats the most direct way to get to Nicosia if I decide to go? i.e. flight to an airport in the city.
Do you know if there is a budget airline that currently flies there? (cyprus being in the EU I thought there might be)
Cheers if you can help out, if not dont worry but least I tried
Oh, and as for the beaches bit. Clacton > Southend any day of the week.

Fly to Larnaka either with BAA or Cyprus Airways. It is pretty exspensive this time of year also. Going from Heathrow seems the cheapest way. Once in Cyprus an average taxi to Nicosia will cost £20 -£30 cyp pound, however, renting a car can go from £10.00 a day. The footie stadium is on the border of Nicosia but closet hotels would be the Hilton Park Hotel, Asty Hotel or Europa Hotel.
