How often will I get to go home during my phase 2 training? I have been accepted as an AET and understand that the 8 weeks basic is pretty much 24/7 but what about phase 2? Will I get weekends free whilst at HMS Sultan or even get to go home in the evenings?

I ask not because I am worried about not being at home but because I am recently married and hope to have a "bun in the oven" before too long.

Also at what point in my training will I be eligible for a married quarter? Due to the drop in wages I will be taking to begin with we are having to sell our house and move in with the inlaws.

Darren old chap quite a lot of things happening in your life at once isn't there? When I was at Dolphin doing my phase 2 training, we got every weekend off however lads that I joined up with me and were based at Dryad didn't get nearly as much time off. I think it varies from base to base. When I had my marriage patch you had to be based in the port area where the quarter was for six months to initially qualify for one but I'm not sure if a training draft counts. Hope this helps but it has been a while since I left (dolphin and dryad have since closed) but at least it gives you something to be going on with.

Thanks for the reply matey. Tis true I am a busy little bee at the mo, hopefully this means I get a big chunk of stuff out of the way then have an enjoyable few years before we decide on extending the family!

Wifey is going to love it if I don't at least get the wekends off but hey ho we must all make sacrifices from time to time and I am sure it will be worth the seperation for all the positives I will get from a career in the Navy.

i finished my phase 2 as an AET not long ago mate. Sultan you'll get every weekend off. At yeovilton now
