I have noticed that Iran war post is locked

Gulf war 2 recent events sticky has had no entries since 2004

Why is that?

I was wondering if todays news was worthy of a discussion?


As anti-war demonstrations take place around the globe, BBC News talks to some of the protesters who gathered at Parliament Square in London.

On a bitterly cold Saturday in March, many Britons could perhaps be forgiven if they settled down in front of the fire for a browse through the weekend newspapers and a nice cup of tea.

But thousands chose to leave those comforts behind to vent their frustration at the continuing British military involvement in Iraq.

true these anti-war protests would have been relevant BEFORE our forces went to Iraq. but now they are there we should have nothing but support for them. www

Maybe they do support HM Forces WWW Just because they are anti the war does not necessarily follow that they are anti HM Forces.

Having followed the Iran thread with interest I found it a very sad situation when it degenerated into a personal slanging match.

In my humble opinion it would seem that anyone who voiced any opinion in any shape or form that could be termed as a 'positive' view of Iran were vilified by members of this forum who would seem to take this as an anti American attack.

I believe Doc took the correct course of action by locking the thread.

I have followed many a thread that have been excellent in their content and have produced sound and intelligent debate from both sides of the spectrum.
Long may it continue.

I note today that two new threads have started regarding 'Iran' it will be interesting to see how they develop.

As I was told many a year ago, " two areas that are bound to cause conflict are politics and religion" .

Yet once in conversation with a people from different religious backgrounds I was informed by them "that we are all children of the book"!!

It seems to split every one into two camps Tafmad, those who have seen active service and know what the troops are facing out there and those that haven't and don't care on what problems they stir up.

I did actually read through all the Iran posts Tab, it was a pity that it degenerated into personal abuse but I suppose that is the way of things when people feel strongly about a topic, I have been ejected from a couple of sites for stating my views robustly (damn i do love that word) But as saward has stated it will be interesting to see how the current topics run

Well that certainly died a death... 3 responses.. thanks guys.. For my next post, I will be mainly concentrating on the weather and it's impact on the ground.

Concerning the anti war protesters I think H_N has a great signature that pretty much somes up a lot of attitudes towards them.

This subject was discussed at length by serious minded people some of whom had experienced war in its many forms and reasons. There were, of course, the usual interruptions by some who knew no better who added little but perhaps their own brand of satisfaction/humour.

The moderaters took the most suitable action, in my opinion.

Taf, at the time of Gulf two several of us started a locked news group to cover the times when wives etc, back in UKers did not have live cover. I am generally eight hours ahead of UK and tried to get my stuff in before 06 00 Zulu. Andy O, lives on Canada`s west coast and is about Zulu minus eight-ish. So between the two of us, we were able to often provide early warning of events that would be reported later in the day or even the next day by beeb itv etc. It was a locked thread to keep the information free from ill-informed, non-sensitive comment etc.
However there was a parralle thread for all to comment on, including me and Andy(because we tried to keep our posts free from comment on the news overview)
