Hi everyone, first of all i'd like to say what a fantastic forum this is, i'm really enjoying the threads.

Down to business... My grandad served in the 2nd world war for the rifle brigade and i'd love to find out more information on him, where abouts he fought and what rank he acheived (he started at private and aparently got to major, i say aparently because i found a document last night say he was a colonel)

Secondly... he has his medels mounted in case, which is on my wall, and there is one that i cannot find what its called or anything about it. Driving me insane i've looked everywhere with no luck. I would attached it here but i dont know how?

Any help on either or both of these subjects would be greatly apprieciated

ohhh you mean Medal

You could always try this site as they have quite a collection of badges and medals. But with out a picture of the medal there is little we can do to advise you.

You will see a nice picture of said medel (medal) .

Indeed it is! Order of Leopold II Gold/Bronze

In 1900 King Leopold II, as king of the independant state of Congo, created another order (see top pictures) which was later, in 1908, incorporated into the Belgian awards system (see pictures below). It was awarded for services to the King. In fact it is again a long service order and awarded as such instead of the rarer Leopold I Order (but also alternatively with the Order of the Crown). The usual emblems and ribbon variations (see Belgian WWI Decorations) are applicable to this Order as well.
