I've bee told Easter leave starts on the 7th of April so we will have 4 weeks training then 2 weeks leave.

Sorry, when I started this thread I had written the title as 'recruit training - 30th january'. I think that was because I had just read dalo's post about the 30th of Jan. I'm actually starting on the 13th of March.
Sorry for the confusion Winnie.

If you can, try and get an earlier start date. Being there for four weeks and then coming home for two will play hell with your settling in to the place.

Best of luck.

I joined on the 3rd of July 1973. Did ten days at Deal and then another ten days there as we were only 23 strong so had to wait for the next Troop to join so we had enough blokes to go to CTC. Was at CTCRM for two weeks and then went on three weeks summer leave.

Came back, carried on training and passed out Febuary 1974. What do you think the Marines are ashley? You get a joining date and you join! Thats it. Endex. You take the rough with the smooth and accept it.

He can't ask them to defer his joining dates as it would affect his settling in time for gawds sake. It's the Royal Marines not the chuffing Brownies he's joining!!!! Get a Grip!

Alright, fair one, but everyone's diffferent.

I started training 2 weeks before Summer leave, and found myself threaders for a few days after leave. It made some people to opt out as soon as the right became available too. Personally, I'd rather have stayed and been progressing into week 6, as opposed to week 3, as would quite a few other lads. When I rejoin I'll certainly be hoping to get a join date at the beginning of a term.

I remember turning up at "Commando Halt" four weeks before summer leave. That was enough time to get us in the mindset, but three weeks leave was also plenty of time to let us strut around our various hometowns wearing the t-shirts and getting civvyfied again ( is that a word ? It is now ! ).
I remember our PTI outside the gym at our first imf session after summer leave asking "Whose been doing phys over leave ? "
He looked at the raised hands then sniffed "I smell bullshit !"
A beasting followed, and 299 tp was cut down from about 36 to about 20 by the end of the day.
Moral : Do the phys over leave or hope your join date is well before Christmas Easter or Summer.

Only 5 days to go now. I can't wait to get started.
Anyone else apart from jphil and me starting on Monday aswell?

I'd like to say thanks to the mods and everyone who contributes information to these forums. It has been a massive help over the past 2 years. I'll be sure to come back on here when i'm on leave and tell you how it's going.
Best of luck to anyone doing PRMC or starting recruit training in the future.

Thanks very much

Mark
