Has anyone else been following this story of Eleonora Suhoviy's fight to remain in the UK?

Basically, she was born in the Ukraine, came here when she was 13, taught herself English from Sherlock Holme's novels and has been to Oxford. She's been working as a assisant to a Cancer Specialist, but really wants to persue a career in the Royal Navy as an Intelligence Officer. The Home Office has been trying to deport her for the last 6 years!

It's disgusting... they're quite willing to allow all these dirty buggers in who do abosultely nothing, yet they go for her, someone who actually wants to contribute and who knows no other home.

Ms Suhoviy's barrister, Jonathan Goldberg QC, said: "I found it an honour to accept this case without fee because she is such a brilliant, patriotic and worthy young woman."

I think it is a great shame. Just shows how wonderful our immigration policy is, and the joined-up thinking behind other governmental depts. Ignoring any humanitarian issues, we (as a country) have paid for this young lady to be educated to degree level, and she is quite keen to repay her 'debt to society'. Economically it makes sense to allow her to stay.

No doubt if she refused to work, got knocked up and went on benefit for the rest of her life HMG would be providing more support.

As an aside - could she join the RN? If she faces deportation now, it's going to be a while (ever?) before she could possibly become naturalised. Unless, of course, this becomes a political football.

The article isnt the best one, but its the only one I could find... in others she clearly states she would never sponge benefits, she couldn't.

Overall, I think the state has had little to do with her. She was also able to pay her own way with the help of a mysterious benefactor, its seems her willingness to learn made quite an impression.

I would just like to follow up with the great news that Eleonora Suhoviy has finally won her deportation appeal.
The tribunal heard how the graduate, who is backed by several public figures, wanted to join the Royal Navy and "preserve the British way of life".
I wish her the very best of luck for her future. What an exceptional women.
