Firstly... apologies if i've gone and posted this in the wrong section (a mod can move if it so), but i've got a bit of a dillema that i'm seeking some words of wisdom on.

I'm a 32 year old male... married with 4 kids. I own my own business (Motor vehicle repair garage) and own my house. But a few years ago i wanted to join the NAVY. But after thinking about it (the fact that my better half didn't want to move around the country all the time) decided against it. But now, 6 years later, i still find myself wanting a more exciting job and have been browsing the Navy's website.

So.... am i too old?... is it a wise move being married and having children?.

Your opionions could make a differance to my next 30 years.

TIA

Careers Offices are fine... but they only tell ya the good points, their job after all is to get people signed up.

I wanna know the "real" story...from real people.

It depends on what trade you are going for. You might get a really cool job and see the world but you could also take a huge paycut, loose the Mrs and hate the new job.
What is your income now? What will it be?
Money can't make you happy but it makes being miserable a dam sight more comfortable!

Never thought of that to be honest.... What sort of commitment would that entail? As i aint looking for a twice a month hobby. I'm looking for a new career. My garage is ok, but it's very repetitive sometimes.

So is sitting on the arse end of a ship at 3 o'clock in the morning, a lot of the things you would be required to do as a new entry at your age, no disrespect intended, would be be seen as mundane, cleaning out messdecks and heads (toilets) to name but a couple.

Being told what to do by a 21 year old leading rate might also wear a bit thin very quickly as well.

The services are a young mans-womans game, I would think long and hard about what you have got, what you will gain, and more importantly what you might lose.

If you are 17 for a few years maybe but not as a career at your mature age. I have done 22 and in the last 6 yrs it has really gone downhill for many reasons, I would not reccomend joining full stop these days. I work in recruitment not long til I leave thank the lord feel sorry for the poor souls finacially trapped with sentences to complete.
